The daily steal: Trapper hat, $25

If one could point to an It hat this winter, it would be the trapper. This ear-warming faux fur version from RW & Co. ($25, rw-co.com) makes us a little less afraid to face the frigid temperatures.

The daily steal: Military-inspired cap, $20

Comments

Like leopard print, the military trend is one of those that seems to reappear without fail every couple of seasons, which means most of us has a jacket with epaulets or something camouflage print that we just have to dig out of our closets. What should stay in the closet, however, is your cadet hat: while these are semi-flattering, they still remind us more of frosted-tip boy band members than hot models on a runway. Opt instead for this wool cap from Winners ($20). It’s clean and minimal, and has a military-inspired feel without being too literal.

FMlovely0110c_196Lovely in…a tricky topper
Spotted: Queen and Bathurst Streets
Why: The porkpie isn’t a look that’s easy to pull off, but the combo of bangs and blunt ends makes it work. With a gamine quality that’s neither feminine nor frou-frou, our Lovely takes a page from Buster Keaton, in pared-down pieces and his signature chapeau.
