Okay, December is finally here, which means that now even I, the Scroogiest of all, can begin thinking about Christmas. Having survived seven Christmases working in retail, I think it will still take me a while to recover my holiday spirit. But if the crowded shopping wasn’t pandemonium enough in previous years, now construction of the Canada Line is adding insult to injury by causing traffic mayhem in some of Vancouver’s best shopping quarters.

Recessionistas are rediscovering the simple pleasures of homemade meals, and they’ll surely enjoy the not-so-simple foie gras cooking class by caterer extraordinaire Denise Cornellier (December 10, $225, cornelliertraiteur.com).
