We go behind the scenes of the Mad Men collection for Banana Republic with Janie Bryant

Comments

Season 5 of Mad Men may be delayed until 2012, but thanks to Banana Republic‘s exclusive, 65-piece capsule collection by the show’s costume designer, Janie Bryant, we’ve got something to tide us over until then. Since its release last week, we’ve started feeling pangs of Draper-fever and so, in an attempt to calm ourselves, we chatted with Bryant about the collection and her work on the hit show. Celeb poll: Vote for your favourite Golden Globes look!

Golden GlobesColour was everywhere on last night’s Golden Globes red carpet. So much so, that we are seriously considering a mid-winter makeover. From the emerald green worn by Angelina Jolie, Elizabeth Moss and Mila Kunis to the shades of bubblegum on Claire Danes, Natalie Portman and Julianne Moore, the spectrum was covered at every point.

This year, it also seemed that the ball gown was eschewed – with the exception of a few knockout odes from Catherine Zeta-Jones and Olivia Wilde – for the sleek and sexy cutout lines on Emma Stone, Anne Hathaway and January Jones.

Between all of these visual delights, who do you think did it the best? View the full looks after the jump!

Red carpet round table: The best and the worst of the Met Gala

Photography by Kevin Mazur/WireImage/Getty Images

Now that fashion week, the Globes and the Oscars are all done, we’ve been starved for serious red carpet action for the past couple of months. Last night’s Metropolitan Museum of Art Gala in New York at least promised to give us fodder for red carpet punditry. The theme was American Woman: Fashioning a National Identity–the exhibit currently on at the Met’s Costume Institute and the most awaited guest of the evening was the American fashion force Lady Gaga. She didn’t show up on the red carpet and the result was a mostly-expected line-up of dresses. (Though even Gaga wore an Armani bodysuit that was near-identical to the one she wore at the Oscars, so yawn.) Diane Kruger’s blazingly white Calvin Klein was the clear winner of the evening, but Gap’s “collaborations” with Rodarte, Sophie Theallet, Thakoon and Alexander Wang were an almost universal disappointment.

After the jump, features director Leah Rumack, fashion market editor Sarah Casselman and I dish on the best, the worst and the most, um, interesting ensembles of the night. Read more »

Vote: Do you like January Jones’ Golden Globes hair?

Comments

Let’s start right off by saying that we love January Jones in this jet black Lanvin at last night’s Golden Globes. The dress is simple, but still has enough going on to be interesting–that big graphic ruffle on her shoulder is divine. But we’re not really loving that headband. In theory, a simple black ribbon should be a chic accessory, but for us, it’s distracting. What say you?
