Daily Steal

The daily steal: Super-stretch jeggings, $78

FMsteal1209serena_lg

Whoever thought that girls would want to wear jeans while practicing yoga was crazy—and yet, brand after brand has launched “jeggings”: leggings comfortable enough to wear while doing downward dog, but made to look like jeans. Some versions have included denim-like fading and materials, but I prefer the new Serena by Mavi ($78, mavi.com): the super-stretchy fabric is cozy, but with metal hardware (yep, rivets, a zipper, and all) and actual, real pockets, they’re a more street-friendly, less-ridiculous incarnation of the trend.

Charlottetown: Plant a seed and watch it Groe

apr09groe1_lg

When 19-year-old artist Nathan Loberg spilled paint on his best friend’s jeans, it planted the seed for Groe, his custom design company. Feeling guilty, he made it up to his pal by painting on the same denim, simultaneously camouflaging the mess and transforming a humble pair of pants into a piece of wearable art. Loberg’s friend Mike Wasnidge spotted the potential in this creation and saw it as a prime business opportunity. And so Groe Custom Clothing was born.
