Celebrations for the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee came full circle today with a ceremony at Westminster Abbey to mark the 60th anniversary of the Queen’s coronation. It was the first time that the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge returned to the Abbey since their wedding and, given the significance of today’s ceremony, the entire royal family was in attendance. We’re not going to lie: we were really hoping to see the royals dressed in traditional ermine robes and elaborate jewellery. (That Diamond Diadem crown deserves to be worn!) However, given that it’s 2013 and not 1953, the wardrobe choices were much more modern.

At the top of the best dressed list was, of course, the Duchess of Cambridge, who wore a pale-pink bespoke Jenny Packham coat and dress. Today’s appearance may just be the first time that Kate Middleton’s baby bump has been totally visible from front-on—though the empire waistline certainly helped to emphasize it. Read more »

Oscars 2013: 20 of the red carpet’s best dressed at this year’s Academy Awards

Oscars 2013 Red Carpet

See the best dressed on the Oscars 2013 red carpet »

The yearlong reign of Angelina’s Right Leg has officially come to an end. Oscars 2013’s fresh crop of red carpet wows is sure to erase that blunder from our minds, at least for a few days.

Last night’s red carpet was awash with the spectrum’s palest shades. From the serene to the layer cake-like, white and pale pink took top A-list honours. And starting at the very top, Academy Award winner for best actress, Jennifer Lawrence, did Christian Dior proud in her latest look from the house. Plucked from the house’s Spring 2013 couture collection, the frothy pale pink dress was a much more feminine look than we’re used to for Lawrence, but beautiful just the same. As for that pre-acceptance speech slip up the stairs? We’ll just file that, along with this list of her epic Oscars facial expressions, away with all the ways she’s endeared us to her. Another in the pink corner, was supporting actress award winner Anne Hathaway, who stunned in a sleek petal pink Prada dress. And where the extreme side-boob pleats made for some easy jokes by many, we are head-over-heels for the look, especially its open back detailing which Hathaway paired with Tiffany & Co. jewels worn backwards.

Charlize Theron made the strongest case for white, wearing one of the night’s best dresses, another Christian Dior Haute Couture, featuring a deep V-neck strapless cut and a slight peplum waist. Babe, to say the least. Also sporting pale shades, were Zoe Saldana, Kristen Stewart and Amanda Seyfried, in varying shades of grey and cream, and Oscars 2013 nominee Jessica Chastain, who did her best Jessica Rabbit in a stunning light copper and white custom Giorgio Armani dress.

And speaking of Armani! While the rest of red carpet season seemed to be deadset on introducing the world to younger talents like Erdem, Marios Schwab, Simone Rocha and Alexander Vaulthier, Giorgio Armani made a big statement last night, with Chastain, Naomi Watts and Quvenzhané Wallis helping to reclaim its red carpet domination.

So, who came out on-top? Vote in our Oscars 2013 red carpet poll!

New York Fashion Week: Embellishment reigns supreme at Rodarte, Narciso Rodriguez, Jenny Packham and Tory Burch for Fall 2013

Rodarte Fall 2013

New York Fashion Week is full of sparkling moments, and any magpie worth her shiny nest knows how to spot them. Take Tory Burch’s Fall 2013 show, held in one of the opulent salons at The Pierre Hotel. Crystal chandeliers, gilded sconces and the plushest of carpets made for a very luxe start to the day. Over at J. Crew, Julianne Moore, looking oh-so-radiant sans makeup and sporting an effortlessly cool topknot, seemed to leave a trail of stardust as she glided through the room. The star power continued over at Dennis Basso’s 30th anniversary show with a double dose of Joan (Rivers and Collins). And judging by the rest of the well-heeled attendees, the 3F’s–furs, fine jewels and facelifts–were out in full force to celebrate this luxury brand’s milestone. At Rodarte, swirls of kaleidoscopic colour updated the go-to summer staple–the maxi dress–but it was the illuminated set, inspired by the Santa Cruz boardwalk, where the Mulleavy sisters grew up, that shone like a beacon when the lights went down. Want to turn up the flash factor in your closet? Fall 2013’s runway collections are filled with glittering looks and decorative details. Here are 5 fresh ways to wear embellishment:

The Royals have not been getting along with their clothing lately, to say the least. First, Prince Harry lost a game of strip pool in Vegas (what happens in Vegas definitely doesn’t stay in Vegas), then Kate had some very exposed photos published in a French tabloid and rumour has it that a Danish gossip magazine published completely nude photos of the Duchess. Talk about a stroke of bad luck.

As with all extremely publicized scandals, a strategic plan must be made about how to deal with the tarnishing of the royal name. In the case of Prince Harry, a spokeswoman from the palace has issued a statement saying, “Having considered the matter now for a number of weeks, we have decided not to pursue a complaint.”

Post-party Harry has been deployed to Afghanistan where he is “focused entirely on his deployment in Afghanistan” so a lawsuit would only be a distraction from his hard work.

It’s day three of Prince William and Kate Middleton’s tour of Southeast Asia and they’ve moved on from Singapore and headed north to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Before departing they spent the morning at the Kranji War Cemetery, paying respects to British and Commonwealth soldiers who lost their lives defending Singapore during World War II. Kate Middleton carried a parasol to offer some shelter from the sun (it was a balmy 30 degrees out!) and we have to say, when paired with that pleated Jenny Packham dress she had quite the ’40s aesthetic going on. The dress—described as “duck egg-blue” by the palace—is apparently a custom design for Kate Middleton and features lace detailing on the top. Read more »

It’s only day one of Kate Middleton and Prince William’s royal tour of Southeast Asia but we’re already proclaiming the trip a fashion success. The Duchess debuted two new dresses today and oh, do they ever make up for the weeks and weeks of repeated Olympic items. First up: Will and Kate visited the Singapore Botanic Gardens to attend an orchid naming ceremony and visit an orchid that was named for Princess Diana prior to her death. Kate Middleton wore a pale-pink dress by Jenny Packham and, much to our delight, the dress featured an orchid print. Apparently she commissioned the custom design, and while the print isn’t an exact match for the “Vanda William Catherine” orchid—which is white with a spotty purple pattern—we have to admit it comes pretty close. There’s no time to rest when you’re a duchess: after a week of jubilee engagements, Kate had only a few days of downtime before stepping back into the sartorial spotlight. On Saturday, the royal trio—that would be Kate, Prince William and Harry—attended the wedding of Emily McCorquodale and James Hutt. The bride, who’s the daughter of Princess Diana‘s oldest sister, Lady Sarah McCorquodale, spent many childhood holidays with Will and Harry, vacationing with their mums on Richard Branson‘s private island. (Pshaw, no big deal.) Read more »
