Kate and Laura Mulleavy of Rodarte failed to show up at a ceremony at the White House, where they were to be honoured with the Smithsonian’s Cooper-Hewitt National Design Award for fashion design. A representative said there was a last minute change in plans and they had to attend a family obligation in Los Angeles. [WWD]

The London Fashion Week schedule has just been released: after two seasons in Paris, Brit designer Giles Deacon will be presenting on home turf, along with LFW newbies Acne. The usual slew of Canadians are on the list as well, including Mark Fast, Todd Lynn, Jean Pierre Braganza and Erdem. London Fashion Week starts September 17.

After filing for bankruptcy in 2009, Italian fashion house Gianfranco Ferré is up for auction this week. No, there is no physical auction block but there are a list of regulations to conserve the brand. [Vogue UK]

The Eaton Centre in Toronto is about to get a $120 million face lift. While exact plans are not yet confirmed, we do know they plan on keeping the Canada goose sculptures. Our friends at Toronto Life have suggested a coat check and special lanes for slow walkers. [Read more »

Kell on Earth hasn’t even hit Canada yet, but we’ll be lucky to get the first season, because plans for a second seem to be lagging. Kelly Cutrone, clearly not waiting around, has instead set up a YouTube channel, KellyCutroneTV, where you can get “daily missives” from the People’s Revolution team. There has been a string of burglaries hitting London’s high end shops, and last night Chanel was the target (clearly the burglers have good taste). Over the past two years other retail stores including Dolce & Gabbana, Harvey Nichols, Anya Hindmarch and Salvatore Ferragamo have been robbed, but police haven’t confirmed yet if it’s the same high-end hitters that keep looting the shops. But what of being featured in a reality TV show where you seem to be the only real person in a room of heavily-kohled eye-rollers playing make-believe with their careers? Well if you’re Kelly Cutrone, you stick well enough in the public consciousness to become a regular fixture on said show (The Hills) as well as its spawn (The City) and eventually get to headline your own (Kell on Earth).
