Some of our favourite fashion talents were celebrated last night at the 2011 British Fashion Awards in London, with Sarah Burton, Mary Katrantzou, and Charlotte Olympia (to name a few) coming out on top in their respective categories. As always, what everyone was wearing was equally top of our minds, and we’ve especially enjoyed these neat little red carpet photo combos of megawatt designer avec megawatt muse (or muse-come-designer in Victoria Beckham’s case). In one corner, we’ve got the bright-young-thing duo of Christopher Kane and Alexa Chung donning a look from his Spring 2012 collection, and with Charlotte Olympia kitten heels. In the other, you’ve got the black-on-black pairing of Marc Jacobs and Beckham in her own design (may we just say, Vicky’s looking less extreme than usual, and we like it) The always-cool McCartney and Moss duo triumph with Stella in a sexy-tomboy suit and Kate in all-over fishnet. So, who takes the cake for the best dressed duo?

The British Fashion Awards were held in London last night. Christopher Bailey and Burberry were honoured twice: Bailey for British Designer of the Year and his label for Best Designer Brand. During his speech, Bailey announced that he would be showing the Prorsum collection in London again for the fall shows in February. While we were crossing our fingers for the Canadian talent on the nominees list–Mark Fast for emerging ready-to-wear talent and Todd Lynn for Best Menswear Designer–those awards went to Peter Pilotto and Kim Jones for Dunhill, respectively. (Don’t feel too bad for Fast–dressing Julia Restoin-Roitfeld on the red carpet was a win of another kind.) Read more »

On December 9th, The British Fashion Awards 2009 will recognize the most influential players in the British fashion industry. Among the nominees are two Canadians: Winnipeg’s Mark Fast is up against Medham Kirchhoff and Peter Pilotto in the emerging ready-to-wear designer category, while Todd Lynn is nominated in the menswear category with Graeme Fidler of Aquascutum and Kim Jones of Dunhill. Lynn, an Ottawa native who launched his own label of androgynous ready-to-wear in 2006, has worked with Roland Mouret and put Mick Jagger, Marilyn Manson and Bono in his bespoke leathers. Fast, a quickly-rising knitwear name, showed his third collection at London Fashion Week in September at a show that was surrounded in controversy after the designer chose to use a handful of non-size zero models.

Other nominees include Daisy Lowe, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley and Georgia Jagger in the model category. Winners will be announced on December 9 in London.
