H&M The New Icon

H&M strikes again. Yesterday they were making our hearts race with a campaign fronted by Queen Beyoncé (bow down, b***es) and today we found out the Swedish brand will be releasing a collection inspired and modeled by four of fashion’s other favourites—models Joan Smalls, Daphne Groeneveld, Lindsey Wixson, and Liu Wen.

Titled “The New Icon,” the collection is set to hit store floors mid-April and consists of festival ready looks like a tasseled leather jackets, bolo ties, and western inspired ankle boots that are indicative of model off duty style. For those of you who don’t know what that means, it’s basically an effortless look you would spot a model in while she runs from show to show (that would likely be captured by one of many street style photographers).

Glitter, gloss, wings, 6-inch heels, plenty of pink, big, sexy hair and legs that go on for days—the Victoria’s Secret Angels know how to give good glam. Hours before the annual Victoria’s Secret fashion show began, we headed backstage amidst clouds of hairspray, racks of Swarovski-encrusted pink satin Victoria’s Secret robes and throngs of editors/bloggers/photographers to get the inside scoop from the heavenly ones (The jitters! The diets! The costumes!). Pre-show, Twitter was a-buzz with news of Karlie Kloss’s new ‘do but post-show it was all about her controversial Native American-inspired costume, which subsequently will be pulled from the televised show on December 4th. From Justin Bieber to Bruno Mars to mega-babe Rihanna, the musical performances didn’t disappoint, nor did the star-studded front row which included Alexander Wang, 30 Rock’s Katrina Bowden, Debbie Harry, members of Kings of Leon , Gossip Girl’s Jessica Szohr and Vanessa Hudgens and her boyfriend Austin Butler. Here, FASHION shares our all-access pass to this year’s Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show, backstage and beyond….

Patrick Robinson is out at Gap… but why?

Comments

Photography by Mark Von Holden/Getty Images for NYC & Company

We’re barely halfway into 2011 and the fashion world has already seen our fair share of industry shake-ups: the Galliano scandal, Carine Roitfeld’s exit at Vogue Paris, Christophe Decarnin’s mysterious mental illness/ousting at Balmain, and now Patrick Robinson has been booted from the Gap.

While most of the recent switch ups seem to make sense⎯Galliano’s anti-Semitic outburst couldn’t very well go un-reprehended and Decarnin’s health issues were clearly in need of medical attention⎯we found ourselves puzzled upon hearing the news that Robinson had been presented with a pink slip due to lackluster sales in the first quarter of this year. We’ve seen many a powerhouse figure reinstate retail dinosaurs (Bonnie Brooks at The Bay , Jenna Lyons at J.Crew), so why not Robinson at the Gap?

Fashion news: Eau de Bruce Willis, Marc Jacobs’ book store, and Evan Biddell wants you to buy that dress you borrowed

Evan Biddell is tired of a culture of rampant dress-borrowing. He tweeted this morning: “ok ok, that was a little harsh, but 90% of my clients are Fabulous women, and if they are all borrowing outfits, I only sell 10% of the time.” Then he asks: “HOW IS THIS SUPPORTING CANADIAN FASHION??????????” His solution? “maybe its a matter of becoming organized? we could all have the same policy? you wear it, you buy it. sounds fair to me.” After all, exposure doesn’t mean much if it never turns into a sale. Biddell’s frustration may stem from this weekend’s Juno Awards–which will surely feature many borrowed frocks. He followed up his comments with “does anyone watch the canadian pop music awards anyways?” [Evan Biddell Twitter]

Another day, another celebrity fragrance line. Except this time, it’s a male celebrity creating a signature scent: Bruce Willis is launching a fragrance set to be released in July. Eau d’ie hard maybe? [Styleite] Read more »

Miss J Alexander has written a book revealing that the former model and current ANTM runway coach extraordinaire has a child. Though he isn’t the biological father (his ex-boyfriend is), Miss J still has a strong presence in the child’s life.[ The Cut]

In other Miss J news, the J stands for Jenkins. Oh, and Coco Rocha walks like “her nose is always running,” Claudia Schiffer was a “fladunkasaurus,” and Cathy Horyn walks like her “back hurts.” We really want to read his book now. [NYT]

Chinese catwalker Liu Wen will be the first Asian model to ever walk in the Victoria’s Secret show, which airs November 19. [The Cut] Read more »
