Cindy Sherman channels the clownish and the bourgeoisie for her collaboration with M.A.C. We’ve got your sneak peek at the collection!

Comments

In what seems like the best news since, well, the last of M.A.C’s brilliant artist collaborations, the makeup label has teamed up with famed self-portrait photographer Cindy Sherman for a three-look collection for release in September. The artist—who has famously morphed her own visage into just about everything from a sun-worshipper to a ‘60s-era nurse to a fresh corpse—is transforming again: this time into a frowning clown with Dame Edna–hued hair; an unsatisfied, fur-donning wealthy woman; and an overgrown teenybopper with über-bright pops of over-painted colour. As unconventionally beautiful as the images might seem, the characters, with their overdone makeup and extreme expressions, aim to encourage your own sense of self transformation and exploration. You are at once the artist and the subject. Yeah, makeup can do that.

The Cindy Sherman for M·A·C collection will be available from September 29 through October 27th.

Almost every season, Hollywood has a way of asserting its influence on the runways, with leading ladies from contemporary and iconic films inspiring makeup and hair at several shows. For Fall 2011 alone, makeup artist Val Garland painted a smoky eye at Sophie Theallet to evoke a modern-day Faye Dunaway in Bonnie and Clyde, while at Dsquared, she channelled Nicole Kidman in Cold Mountain.
