Fashion news: Kate Moss speaks, Madonna to launch lingerie, and US Airways loses lots of vintage Gucci

Comments

It’s always a treat to hear models speak. One who rarely seems to chat for the cameras is Kate Moss, so it’s a double treat to hear her talk about her collaboration with Longchamp, what keeps her grounded and her most poignant fashion moment. [Jezebel]

Yesterday at an event at Macy’s for Lourdes’ Material Girl line her mama Madonna revealed plans to launch a workout and lingerie collection for adults. [WWD] Read more »

Fashion news: Marc Jacobs poses nude, Tavi is number 1 and the perpetual catfight between Ford and Next

If you think animals fight for their mates, you should see Ford and Next go at it over models. Ford has sued Next three times for stealing models, and now Next is counter-suing, after one of their agents (with three of their prized models) jumped to Ford. Drama! [The Cut]

Taking one for the team, Marc Jacobs is the model for his first men’s fragrance in a decade.  Aptly named, Bang, it’s first ad features a lubed-up Jacobs lying naked with an oversized cologne bottle between his legs. Lets just hope none of the older, leathery designers decide to follow suit. [Huffington Post] Read more »

Burberry is launching a 30-piece April Showers collection this month to keep customers shopping until the first fall 2010 deliveries hit stores in June, and providing items that are apropos to April: trench coats, rain boots and umbrellas. [Coutorture]

If Fashion’s Night Out had a slogan, it would be bigger is better, because that’s where the organizers’ heads are at. The event will supposedly be the biggest fashion show ever put on in New York, with 200 models walking, with 1,500 seats for oglers. [Fashionista]

Nail polish specialist Essie has been bought by L’Oréal USA, who has plans to expand the brand into cosmetics and eventually bring it to the mass market. [WWD] Read more »

Fashion news: Models apparently petitioning for food at TFW, Richemont buys Net-a-Porter and Matthew Williamson + Blair Waldorf

Everyone’s hungry at Toronto Fashion Week. Models are apparently circulating with a petition to get some well-earned backstage grub. (They’re usually in back-to-back shows with no time for the trek to not-very-nearby eats.) Jeanne Beker tweeted last night: “3 models just came up to me and asked me to sign a petition requesting that the FDCC provide food backstage for models!” Catwalker Addison Gill also took to Twitter to implore us to sign on. [@Jeanne_Beker, @AddisonGill] Update: More on this a Modelresource.ca.

Addison Gill was also giving Olympic bronze medalist Joannie Rochette modelling tips before her turns in the Heart Truth and Attitude shows. [@AddisonGill]

It’s a done deal: Swiss luxury group Richemont, the world’s largest jewelry maker, has bought out the remaining 67% of Net-a- Porter for $343 million. Founder Natalie Massenet will remain executive chairman. [Business Week via Racked] Read more »

Fashion news: Balmain hair extensions, Ungaro up for sale and Lady Gaga to design sunglasses?

We read something today that we still haven’t fully absorbed: You can get Balmain hair extensions. We assume these aren’t Christophe Decarnin-designed, but instead one of the company’s many licenses. (Check out this DIY Balmain jeans from Auntie Fashion, created using a $5 Balmain men’s dress shirt from Sears.) You can buy clip-in purple or red fringe and extensions in “Level 10″ blonde.  [Balmain Hair, Grazia]

Emanuel Ungaro keeps taking hit after hit. After the LiLo debacle and closing down it’s massive Madison Avenue boutique (which rumour has it will be taken over by Michael Kors), the brand is now apparently on the hunt for a buyer to take over its debt and tainted rep. Any takers? [NYP] Read more »
