Well, looks like Kaia Gerber’s going to have to wait at least seven years before following the runway footsteps of her supermodel mom, Cindy Crawford. The modeling legend just announced she’s ending her 10-year-old daughter’s modeling career—at least until she’s old enough to drive. Read more »

NYFW diary: Marc Jacobs’ Dickensian trip, paper-bag waists, Jenny Packham’s princess looks, and the Rachel Zoe effect

Marc Jacobs Fall 2012, Photography by Peter Stigter

From a raw start (apparently a one-hour flight has me jetlagged?) to many fantastical shows (read: Marc Jacobs does Eliza Doolittle at the Ice Capades), here’s my countdown of yesterday’s hits:

1. The Kate Middleton factor: Yesterday morning, Kate-favourite Jenny Packham showed 33 shimmering previews of what’s certain to be on the HRH’s back come fall. While most looks were the kind of predictably pretty that we’ve come to expect from the Duchess, this creamy pantsuit is one I’d love to see her try. Read more »

Lana Del Rey’s a model now! Are you surprised?

Comments

Photography by Lewis Mirrett

Coming as a shock to no one, or at least not us, Lana Del Rey‘s face (and bod) has been signed with Next Models. Joining a roster shared by the likes of Karlie Kloss, Alexa Chung, and Arizona Muse, the agency will likely be handling all of her upcoming campaigns. Whilst we’ve only been able to gaze at her in a fake Prada ad thusfar, we’re sure Miu Miu and Marc Jacobs aren’t far behind. We’ll just say we saw her when.

Battle of the It bags: Which takes the cake for the most coveted?

Comments

The It Bag

The Kelly, the PS1, the Speedy: It bags have become so major over the years, that they scarcely even need a designer name attached! We discuss the appeal at length in our Winter 2012 issue, but today, we’re putting these bags to the test: in the battle of It bag supremacy, which comes out on top?

Afternoon beauty fix: 3 ways to give sparse eyebrows a boost

Comments

What’s my best solution for filling in sparse eyebrows? I was born with barely any, and wish for ones like Brooke Shields has.
Technique is important, but don’t fret—enhancing your brows is simpler than you think. Brush your brows upwards then outward to settle rogue hairs. Then, pick a colour: it’s best to go darker than your natural hair colour, and if you’re grey, look for dark blonde or heather, but avoid anything with a red undertone. When choosing an eyebrow pencil, you want one that draws easily on the back of your hand. You can also opt for a felt-tip, like Urban Decay Urban Brow Precision Tip Brow Tint ($24, sephora.com), which will help you avoid blunt lines and messy pencil shavings. The third option—and the one most commonly used by makeup artists—is eye shadow applied with a slanted eyeliner brush. This technique will add volume, because powder is more malleable and easy to blend, and is your best bet in terms of finding the perfect colour match. For the Marc Jacobs Spring 2012 show, François Nars used the Nars Pandora Duo Eye Shadow ($38, narscosmetics.ca) and, though the palette contains a matte black and shimmering white, the models’ brows looked strong and defined, not fake. Feel free to use a dark and light brown instead, but don’t shy away from colour that looks bold because, believe us, powder is blendable.
