Solange Knowles means business in her music video for “Losing You.” No, actually: she looks like she could be heading to work in a variety of bright pantsuits and printed blazers. But really, she’s just hanging out in South Africa and looking amazing while doing so. Solange earns major style points for having one of the most visually appealing music videos we’ve seen since Grimes’ “Genesis” and, even better, the song is pop music perfection.

Many of the moments from “Losing You” feel like they could be editorial campaigns for major fashion houses, thanks to the amazing styling and artistic shots. (Let’s be thankful Solange didn’t turn to House of Deréon to design the clothing—ahem, like in the days of Destiny’s Child—because we likely wouldn’t be talking about the video if that was the case.) With what feels like a never ending parade of prints, bright colours and a beautiful Solantourage (see what we did there?), the video confirms our guess that Beyonce’s little sister is onto something big. Once synonymous with ’80s leotards and cougar-wear, the leopard print has become as classic as the LBD. After all, it’s kinda like black, white and grey for that matter—it goes with everything—it’s just a tad more interesting. Given the print’s popularity, it was no surprise to see it reigning supreme on the trendy Toronto streets in every form. Take in our full gallery and feel free to meow every so often in appreciation. We might do so too.

Nail Corner: Mixing prints with a Carven Spring 2012-inspired mani

Comments

This week’s Nail Corner steals inspiration straight from the pages of our Spring trend report: a delightful mixed-prints look from Carven’s Spring 2012 collection. The bright-pink and lime-meets-chartreuse chevron pattern has a hand-woven quality to it, with soft lines and organic shapes. When translated to a manicure, the prints vary on each nail, allowing them to mix across each finger.

While the same impressive Navajo and striped combos continued their reign, our favourite was the above mix of floral platforms and galaxy-printed tights. Bravo, whoever you are! Check out today’s snap-age, and stay tuned for more from today and tomorrow’s action via the shOws.
