Giuliana Rancic talks motherhood, mastering the work-life balance and who looked best the Met Gala

In anticipation of Mother’s Day this Sunday, we had the chance to talk with TV personality, fashion designer and new mother Giuliana Rancic. In midst of her busy schedule (co-hosting Fashion Police and E! News are just two of her weekly gigs) Rancic was happy to share tips on balancing time between her hectic career and her family (including her 8-month-old son Duke) while also offering up some always helpful style advice.

Separate work life from home life. Finding it hard at first to balance motherhood with her career, Rancic realized she was not giving her full attention to either: “What I do now is that when I’m at work, I’m 100 per cent focused on work. I return all my emails. I don’t just sit there and surf on the internet like before. And when I’m at home, I would focus 100 per cent on Duke and put the phone away… that way I would feel a little more of a balance.” Read more »

In terms of famous mother-daughter duos, is there a pair more precious than Goldie Hawn and Kate Hudson? They both have sparkling smiles, contagious laughs and a knack for starring in films that become instant classics. (We’re not the only ones who could watch Death Becomes Her and How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days on repeat, right?) As for their relationship, red carpet snaps and paparazzi shots alike would lead you to believe that they’re an IRL Lorelai and Rory Gilmore. Well, after speaking to the pair on the phone earlier this month, I can indeed confirm: Goldie Hawn and Kate Hudson finish each other’s sentences, make each other laugh and have a genuine mother-daughter rapport that makes you wish they’d adopt you. All of this is to say, it’s no wonder that Almay selected them as brand ambassadors for Mother’s Day. (Psst, it’s Sunday, May 12!) Holt Renfrew and Armani team up on a limited edition baby blanket in support of Free The Children

With Mother’s Day only few weeks away, Giorgio Armani and Holt Renfrew have teamed up to launch a limited edition baby blanket in support of Free the Children, the international charity that supports millions of children and families around the world in developing communities. This is the latest in a long line of charity collaborations with some of today’s leading designers, most recently with Missoni and Tory Burch.

Exclusively designed for Holt Renfrew, it will be sold for a limited time only and proceeds of the $50 blanket will go towards benefiting Free the Children’s international developing communities in Kenya, supporting Maasai mamas and their babies through the first year of the baby’s life with the provisions of necessary healthcare, clean water, and needed support. Contributions from purchasing of the blanket will help Holt Renfrew in reaching its goal to raise $100,000 in support for the organization.

Ah, mom. Is there anyone else in your life who deserves a full day of wonderful things? With Mother’s Day on the horizon (May 12, mark it in your calendars!) now is the time to plan how you’ll spend that special Sunday. This year, go beyond the traditional Mother’s Day brunch or mani/pedi appointment. We’ve come up with eight unique ways to spend the day—or the entire weekend—together with your mom.

If your mother is a gardener, spend Mother’s Day weekend outside and, as an added bonus, have her teach you some of her green thumb-making skills. Of course, you’ll need flowers and plants to practice on, which is why we suggest taking a trip together to the Toronto Flower Market. Another way to get your hands dirty (in the best way possible) is to take your mother to at a clay class at the Gardiner Museum.
