Lana Del Rey Style

See Lana Del Rey’s style evolution »

What can you say about Lana Del Rey? Well, what can’t you say about Lana Del Rey. Since she burst onto Youtube with her questionably homemade video for “Video Games,” her beestung lips, larger-than-life bouffant hair and exaggerated almond nails have utterly transfixed. If you’ve ever visited this site, you’d know how much. (Case in point: this step-by-step tutorial)

In her videos, she’s channelled everyone from Marilyn Monroe to Nancy Sinatra. In performances, she’s a total badass. Her vintage aesthetic has been used to sell H&M, Mulberry, Jaguar and more loosely, the American dream. IRL, Lana Del Rey’s style is akin to a modern-day hipster. Her look is constantly transforming, and as such, deserves observing.

In celebration of our current cover girl, we set out to document our favourite Lana Del Rey style and fashion moments on and off screen. Beginning with her first awards show appearance in Prabal Gurung’s ubiquitous floral-print dress and later, in standout looks from Vivienne Westwood, Versace and more, we catch LDR at her very best. And since we know that the latest greatest look is always around the corner, we’ll be adding to this look book á la this never-ending ode to the Duchess of Cambridge.

The Royal baby bump watch continues. The Duchess of Cambridge was out in a rather springy look yesterday, as she attended the National Review of Queen’s Scouts at Windsor Castle. A volunteer with the Scouts Association since January of last year, Kate’s visit was marked, as usual, by a presentation of a floral bouquet, as she and the rest of the crowd watched the annual National Scout Service and Parade which featured the Scouts Band and the Irish Guards playing kid-friendly songs like “New York” and “Star Wars.”

Chief Scout Bear Grylls (if you’ve ever seen Man vs. Wild, you’ll know he’s got the scout chops) was on hand to greet Kate and told reporters that she “is an incredible role model and she helps us show that Scouting’s not just for boys.”

As if Yorkdale Shopping Centre couldn’t get any better, the luxury mega mall has just announced yet another list of first-to-Canada brands opening throughout 2013. After completing a $220 million dollar renovation in November, which saw the Canadian launch of retailers like Kate Spade New York, Loft and Ted Baker, Yorkdale is announcing that luxury retailers David Yurman, Mulberry, All Saints, Zara Home, John Varvatos, and White House | Black Market will join them this year. Ferragamo and Massimo Dutti, who both entered Canada in 2012, will also be opening at Yorkdale Shopping Centre.

In addition to all that international excitement, Brandy Melville, Stuart Weitzman, Lego and Ontario’s own, Honey also plan Yorkdale openings in 2013, as well as current expansions and renovations in the works for current Yorkdale anchors, Holt Renfrew, Harry Rosen and the Bay.

Forget diamonds, everybody knows that shoes are a girl’s best friend. As the Fall 2013 trends begin to emerge, so too do the must-have heels, boots and flats of the season. This round of fashion week has brought with it oodles of new shoe trends to look out for. From strappy suede booties to architectural high heels, the New York, London, Milan and soon-to-be Paris runways are filled with quirky designs that can certainly be the finishing touch on any outfit.

So far, many designers are reinventing old classics and updating them with modern details. Case in point: high-heeled loafers, seen at Mulberry, Rag & Bone and Moschino, which gave a new feminine twist to menswear’s most classic shoe by using fresh yellows, and unexpected patterns. Speaking of unexpected combinations, one of the most unusual footwear trends is the emerging sandal-boot. Open-toe booties are nothing new, but this time designers such as Prada have created a boot customized with cutouts around the sides and front of the shoe.

Kate Middleton seems to be getting into the Christmas spirit judging by the outfits we’ve seen her in the past couple of days.

On Monday Kate was seen in Wales at a rugby match in her red LK Bennett coat and yesterday she opted for the other color of Christmas, as she wore a green Mulberry dress at London’s Natural History Museum.

Making a solo appearance as the Guest of Honour at the opening of the museum’s new Treasures Gallery, Kate Middleton stepped out in her green Mulberry Cabbage Peace & Love dress (which she wore last year to a press reception for the Queen at Buckingham Palace) and her black suede Jimmy Choo cosmic pumps.

gift ideas for women »

Fashion Magazine 2012 Holiday Guide

Somehow, shopping for the leading ladies in our lives often proves to be the hardest. The challenge for Christmas gift ideas is to be creative, on trend, and meaningful—not the easiest task, but a necessary one. If you’re shopping for your girlfriend, wife, sister or mother, it’s essential to make the gift matter and worth every penny spent.

For Christmas 2012, we’ve dreamt of all things lavish and luxe that can double as a satisfaction to a women’s fashion craving as well as functional piece in her every day life and they are anything but traditional. We know that diamonds have been declared a girl’s best friend, but this year we’re thinking outside of the little blue box and selecting gifts that show creativity. We’ve opted for lush fur pieces that will keep her warm all winter, geometric shaped cuffs that will reinvent the arm party, and even a onsesie that just begs to be taken to a ski resort. These are the pieces that will win a woman’s heart.
