Can’t face another blah session on the elliptical? From trapeze to monkey movements, we offer six ways to spice up your routine.

1. TAKE IT TO THE ZOO
Spend an hour at Aeküus in Montreal (aekuus.com) and your body will have a light-bulb moment. You’ll find yourself bounding from one corner to the next like a monkey, with one hand on the ground and the other overhead, or crawling inches from the floor like Spider-Man scaling a building. The exercises originate from basic calisthenics and expand into endless variations, many of which are animal-inspired quadrupedal motions. You’ll start with posture, breathing and fundamental movements (walking, falling, sitting), then increase the intensity and incorporate elements such as martial arts, J-Kae band work and jump rope. “After a year and a half with us, you’re basically capable of training by yourself,” says co-founder Julien Karl. Demonstrating an advanced technique, he grabs the outer edge of a staircase, each hand on a different step, and lifts his legs parallel to the floor. Sold.

Matthew Williamson has been busy: The Brit has designed a capsule collection for online retailer Net-A-Porter, including seven of his most memorable dresses, and has announced a new diffusion line will debut in Fall 2011. [Elle UK]

The rumours are not true: Alexander Wang will not be collaborating with Nike–though he did consider it. The designer told WWD that the two parties had been in talks but the partnership fell through. “Nothing made it to market or will,” he confirmed. [The Cut]

Could an Anna Dello Russo book shot by Toronto superblogger Tommy Ton be in the works? If the flamboyant fashion editor’s tweets can be believed, then yes. “My next wish? Do a book with my whole collection of clothing by Tommy Ton.” [Fashinologie]

By Corrine Aberdeen

When I went to Toronto’s flagship Nike recently store to learn about the new Nike+ GPS iPhone app ($1.99 on iTunes), I prayed that they wouldn’t ask me to run. Thankfully they didn’t, but after inspecting the application I actually wished they had. Read more »

Vancouver: Turn your beat-up runners into a basketball court

While it has yet to be seen what the longer legacy of the Olympics will be, one that’s sticking around for now is Nike’s Reuse-A-Shoe (nikereuseashoe.com/Vancouver) drive. Drop off your old runners—and no, they needn’t be Nike—at one of six collection bins in the company’s stores around Vancouver and they’ll be recycled into three types of Nike Grind material, which are then used to create athletic and playground surfaces. The program has existed since the early ’90s and has recycled parts from more than 24 million pairs of shoes—sounds like a lot, but it takes about 2,500 pairs to make a basketball or tennis court, and up to 75,000 pairs to make a soccer pitch! I’ve packed up my beat-up sneakers (the thrift stores don’t want them anyway!) and dropped them off.

Fashion news: The CFDA Town Hall, a Rad new line and the offspring of Anna and Karl

The CFDA had a Town Hall meeting last night to discuss the relevancy of out-of-season fashion weeks in the Internet age. But what you really want to know is: What did André Leon Talley wear? “The Vogue editor at large got out in a light gray suit with a small Louis Vuitton man-purse and parked himself at a table by the entrance. He applied lotion to his hands and sent someone out for a cappuccino, skim, with Splenda, at the Starbucks across the street. Once it was delivered, Mr. Talley went into the auditorium and took his seat.” Thank you for just existing, ALT. [New York Observer]

Toronto’s Tommy Ton of Jak&Jil took the photo above for Canadian designer Rad Hourani‘s new line, Rad by Rad Hourani–a more affordable collection that doesn’t veer too far from his drapey, unisex vision. [StyleFile]
