Black Friday Cyber Monday Shopping

Canadian Thanksgiving falls in early October and is more about the pies and the turkeys than anything else. For Americans, Thanksgiving also translates to over-eating and pie, but also comes with a side of super sales— both online and in-store.

Black Friday 2012, which falls on November 23 this year, is a day that has become known for extreme markdowns, with department stores including Target, Macy’s and Best Buy starting as early as midnight or 4am. For those afraid of being stampeded for a dress, Cyber Monday is more your speed—it’s when the sales from Black Friday hit the Internet, creating some major deals.

Though the Black Friday craze has mainly been targeted to shoppers in the United States, Canadian retailers seem eager to take part. As for Cyber Monday, many retailers ship to Canada and even Canadian online sites will be participating too.

And because we have never been known to turn down a sale, we will help you out with a constantly updated guide of places to shop on Black Friday and Cyber Monday in Canada. It’s the perfect time to start holiday shopping, so let the madness commence.

What's in your bag, Degrassi star Annie Clark

Photography by Farzin Ghayour

Attention Degrassi fans: today we’re taking a look inside the bag belonging to one of the series’ reigning queens, Annie Clark. As Fiona Coyne on Degrassi: The Next Generation for the past three years, Clark has been cast as the poor little rich girl turned alcoholic turned lesbian and everything in between, but in reality, it seems that the actress is much more, shall we say…put together. Complete with her sister’s hand-me-down makeup bag, travel trinkets and lip balm, Clark’s bag features all the trappings typical of an about-to-be college freshman who just happens to be the star of Canada’s most well-known hit show. Without further ado, let’s snoop!

These twill shorts come in two prints (adorable little sailboats or classic polka dot) and at $25 a pop, we may just have to snag both prints. The modest length makes these shorts completely wearable, and the soft material gives them some lightweight comfort for a hot day.

Cost per wear: 10 fully styled affordable outfits that make a pricey PS1 a totally reasonable purchase!

Cost per wear: PS1

Photography by Carlo Mendoza. Modeled by Marta/Ford Models. On-figure styling by Richard Autio. Hair and makeup by Margot Keith.

This one is for all you designer diehards out there—the ones who would risk their rent on the latest Riccardo Tisci masterpiece. You know what it’s like to go without the many, only to behold the fashionable few. But how do you justify that one outlandish designer purchase? We’re here to help. We’ve done the math, and come up with enough affordable outfits to justify that one gotta-have-it-now item.

Case in point: Proenza Schouler’s latest PS1. Despite the designers’ intention to create just the opposite, Jack and Laz created a beast of a must-have in the classic style back in ’08, and its Spring 2012 iteration has us seeing stars (or rather, tropical flowers). At a cool $1,125 for the Pochette model, we figure you’ve gotta wear this guy quite a few times to make it work, and being bright yellow, that ain’t an easy feat. Working out to just under $113 a wear, we’ve styled 10 full and unique looks on Marta that make the PS1 proud.

Have a peek. Foam at the mouth. And then be happy that no other single item in the gallery costs anywhere close to $1,125.
