Lana Del Rey wore an oversized white suit to a Golden Globes afterparty and we’re just not sure how we feel about it

Lana Del Rey White Suit

Lana Del Rey is nothing if not a performance artist. Through various states of undress, we’ve seen her play everything from Lolita to a rough riding runaway. If Sunday night’s outfit is any indication, it looks like a Bianca Jagger/Jerry Hall mix might be next on the horizon. At the InStyle Warner Brothers Golden Globes after party this weekend, Del Rey showed up wearing an oversized white suit by Houghton and a gold metal and Swarovski minaudiere from Ferragamo’s Red Carpet collection. Her signature bouffant was toned down to a much sleeker style, and her nails were normal size for the first time in a long while.

The Working Girl look is so uncharacteristic of Del Rey that it must have caused a fair amount of double takes. Make that triple for us. Could the look be the start of something new for Lana Del Rey? While we’re digging the streamlined approach, we’re just not sure we can give up our attachment to her so wrong/so right butt-skimming jean shorts and creepily long nails. We might need to cling to that depraved freak flag for a few years yet.

Wearing your winter coat: 9 Style Panel tips on how to complete your look, even with the bulk

Wearing Your Winter Coat Style Panel

The ladies of our Style Panel have started to help you ease into your winter wardrobe by showing you how to layer for the season, and ease into more weather-friendly boots. This week, they have taken on the daunting challenge how to pair a winter jacket with the rest of your outfit, while still maintaining some style.

Whatever your personal taste or style, the coat options this season are truly endless. Labels including Acne and Haider Ackermann took some cues from menswear and sent oversized coats down respective Fall 2012 runways. If bigger is not better for you, there are many more choices including coats that incorporate trends such as quilted leather and leopard print, as seen on Alexandra Nikolajev.
And what would a post about coats be without mentioning the cape, which Gucci did a stylish version of for its Fall 2012 collection. The cape keeps you warm and doesn’t constrict your arms, but if you’re wary about trying one for yourself, take a cue from Style Panel member Christina Cravero, who wears an Adrienne Vittidani cape in this week’s post. She ensures that a cape is not bulky and can be layered over top of other items, ensuring maximum warmness on a chilly day. So if you’re daring, maybe try a cape this season. If not, you can still take advice from our Style Panel members and see how they plan on styling their coats this winter.

Style Panel: 9 ways to dress for your body type, no matter which trend you try

Dressing For Your Body Type Style-Panel

As snarky as What Not to Wear may be, hosts Stacy and Clinton seem to always get one thing right: many women have no idea how to dress for differing body types. Since we all know that no two bodies are exactly the same, 9 of our unique and uniquely beautiful Style Panelists took on the challenge and styled themselves in what shape suits them best. Whether it be with tight fitting clothing, loose pieces or even balancing out both, our stylish go-to girls were able to manage the trick of dressing for their bodies

Determining what shape of body you have is the most crucial step before you start playing around with looks. Although many ladies this week, including new member Melissa Knight, agree that they prefer wearing loose-fitting over tight clothing due to comfort, most say that confidence is the real key to pulling off a look that flatters anybody’s curves (take a cue from our next new member, Barbara Solomon, if you don’t believe us!)

So no matter what your shape or size, hopefully our Style Panel will inspire you to dress for your body, and just werk it.

Size matters for Fall 2012; volume has been turned up and proportions maximized. Boxier silhouettes, broad shoulders, and architectural layers come together to create striking visuals in our October issue.

On the runways, we saw Comme Des Garçons create a whole new body shape (think: human gingerbread man), Mugler restructured the peplum to add some renewed intrigue to the trend, and Pheobe Philo for chose to supersize her collection for Celine with coats of epic proportions.

Style Panel: Think the boxy trend isn’t for you? 4 bloggers disprove your theory

Boxy Style Panel Challenge

From strong shoulders to wider than wide pant legs, the big and boxy look has been revamped to epic proportions for Fall 2012. A far cry from its 1980s shoulder-pad incarnation (hello bargain basement bin!), the look suddenly feels modern again with runway takes by Haider Ackermann, Alexander McQueen, Viktor & Rolf and the like. Modern, yes. But easy to pull off? Maybe not. As big as the big trend may be, it still ranks high on the hard-to-do scale.

In attempts to figure out this boxy challenge, we asked our Style Panelists how they work the style. Check out the four awesome answers, including one for our latest Style Panel member, Toronto-based blogger Christina Cravero of The Style Mogul.
