Paris: Icebergs and Sasquatch boots at Chanel, capes at YSL and boxy minimalism at Chloé

The Chanel show, held today at Paris’ Grand Palais, was set against melting icebergs with models splashing through in short bouclé dresses with wide furry hems, paneled knits and fringey yarn trims. Notable were the shaggy Sasquatch boots. (A few pairs went thigh high!) The finale was a blizzard of abominable snowman coats, fuzzy white capes and dresses textured with ruffles, soft fringe and sequin clusters.

How many Canadian icons can you spot in this photo? The Canuck contingent in Paris was buzzing this weekend when Jeanne Beker arrived at Viktor & Rolf in this HBC blanket coat, specially designed by Smythe. It’s a little bit of home at the Tuileries.

Phoebe Philo’s second ready-to-wear outing for Celine was full of sleek navy, plum and moss-coloured pieces. Dresses and jackets had low-slung leather patch pockets. Standout pieces were leather and sheepskin cocoon coats, cutaway jackets and shirts, blouses with trailing scarves, and a pair of clustered-sequin pieces.

Paris: Folded, forward and feminine at RM by Roland Mouret

Roland Mouret’s forward and feminine fall collection for his label, RM, was full of draped and folded jersey, silk, wool crepe and velvet dresses, skirts with draping hitched at the waist, and pieces with more angular folds and pinches at the neck, tush and elbows.
