Gone are the topical accessories, strapless dresses and pastel colours she wore just weeks ago—Kate Middleton is completely ready for fall, and doing so with a range of rich jewel-toned outfits. Considering that she has a half-dozen appearances scheduled this week, over the coming days our Kate Middleton gallery is going to fill up with cold-weather-approved outfits. And while we can’t confirm that the Duchess has been reading our Fall/Winter 2012 trend guide, it’s worth pointing out that so far, she’s most definitely following our fashion forecast. Read more »

Kate Middleton looks as graceful as ever in Beulah and Temperley London (So take that, French tabloids!)

Oh, Kate! When news broke last night that a French tabloid had published topless photos of Kate Middleton, we have to say, she couldn’t have been wearing a better outfit. Dressed for a tour of the Asskyakrin mosque in Kuala Lumpur, the Duchess looked almost saintly in a long-sleeved powder-blue dress from Beulah London and matching head scarf. The outfit also eerily recalls those worn by Princess Diana during her various visits to Islamic countries in the ’90s—a comparison that becomes even more significant in the wake of this topless photo debacle. St. James Palace was quick to issue a scathing statement saying that “the incident is reminiscent of the worst excesses of the press and paparazzi during the life of Diana, Princess of Wales.” The Palace also condemned the publication of the zoom-lensed shots, which were taken by a paparazzi while Prince William and Kate Middleton were on vacation at the chateau of Viscount Linley (Princess Margaret’s son) in Luberon, France the week before they left for Southeast Asia.

So, back to Kate Middleton’s attire in Southeast Asia we go! Read more »

A countdown of some of the most expensive celebrity auction items ever to go under the hammer

Comments

Celebrity jewels and clothing have become quite the draw at auctions, with dresses and jewels that once belonged to the rich and famous easily fetching millions. Just last week, two hats worn by Kate Middleton hit the auction block, raising more than $11,000 for charity. Daphne Guinness also auctioned off some of her prized fashion pieces in the name of charity, as did Elizabeth Taylor, whose collection of clothing and jewels garnered a record breaking $157 million. The Taylor auction also attracted several celebrity bids—Kim Kardashian purchased three of Liz’s Lorraine Schwartz diamond and jade bangles for $64,000, and Coco Rocha surprised herself when she walked away with Taylor’s yellow and pink Givenchy jumpsuit that she wore to the Met gala this year. We’ve rounded up 10 celebrity fashion picks that fetched a pretty penny at auction, and we think the piece that went for the biggest bank might surprise you.

Kate Middleton will now have to curtsey to Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie. As if!

Comments

Kate Middleton might be the future Queen of England, but she’s still a commoner by blood, a fact addressed in the updated list of royal protocols that is said to have circulated privately throughout the royal household last week.

The list, which was approved by the Queen herself, places Kate below members of the House of Windsor that are “blood royals,” such as Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie, and requires Kate to curtsey to those ranked above her when not accompanied by her husband.

We’re sure that Kate will have no problem observing these royal protocols seeing as how she is a class act, but we think she should watch out for Princess Ann, who seems to hold disdain towards members of the House of Windsor born of muggle common standing. The Princess Royal is rumoured to have refused to curtsey to Princess Diana or to Camilla because of their non-royal (and therefore modest) beginnings.

While we usually reserve all of our royal gushing for Kate Middleton, today we’re turning our attention to her husband. Happy 30th birthday, William! It’s a milestone birthday that most of us commoners can relate to—feeling like a real adult, wondering if we did enough in our twenties—but for Will, it also comes with an estimated £10 million trust, which was set up by the estate of his late mother, Princess Diana. However, before we start picturing a Scrooge-McDuck-swimming-pools-of-money-esque 30th birthday party, palace officials have said that celebrations will be “low key and private.”

(At least we can count on Prince Harry to do the exact opposite when he inherits the same amount of money on his 30th birthday. The countdown to September 30, 2014 is on!) Read more »

Kate Middleton wears a completely recycled blue-on-blue outfit while throwing a javelin!

Another day, another Diamond Jubilee event! While we thought the festivities had concluded last week, it seems they have heated up once again and gone on tour! Kate, Wills and of course the Queen were in Nottingham this morning for a stop on the Jubilee tour. The trio travelled through the town’s main square, eventually ending up in Vernon Park where they listened to a choir and Kate and Will threw toy javelins. Naturally.

As recycled as ever (bravo!), Kate wore the same blue boucle M Missoni suit dress that she wore while visiting Fortnum and Mason earlier this year overtop the cornflower blue pleated Zara dress she wore the day after her wedding. The dainty navy hat made by Rachel Trevor-Morgan is a repeat as well, Kate having worn it last summer at an Irish Guard event. As per usual, Kate sported L.K. Bennett heels, and carried a quilted Jaeger “Kate Bag.” (Hmm…) The diamond sapphire earrings she’s wearing belonged to Princess Diana, so we sure hope that javelin was placed nowhere near those precious jewels.

There’s no time to rest when you’re a duchess: after a week of jubilee engagements, Kate had only a few days of downtime before stepping back into the sartorial spotlight. On Saturday, the royal trio—that would be Kate, Prince William and Harry—attended the wedding of Emily McCorquodale and James Hutt. The bride, who’s the daughter of Princess Diana‘s oldest sister, Lady Sarah McCorquodale, spent many childhood holidays with Will and Harry, vacationing with their mums on Richard Branson‘s private island. (Pshaw, no big deal.) Read more »

Today, one of our favourite royals and style icons turns 30 years old. Happy birthday, Kate Middleton! While there are rumours of celebrations at a private ‘80s-themed party tonight, yesterday the duchess was in the public eye—on the red carpet at the War Horse London premiere. (And most of us would certainly accept that black lace Temperley dress as an early birthday present!) Read more »
