Project Runway All Stars recap: The designers undress innocent bystanders in Central Park, and Sean Avery’s uptown, downtown, and midtown thoughts about the winning outfit

As the cast of All Stars continues to dwindle, each episode brings a new kind of anxiety and sadness. Now that we’re halfway through the challenges, the thought of anyone getting sent home gives me the shakes. Is it just me? Do you feel it too?

Project Runway All Stars recap: Gelato gowns for Miranda Kerr?

Comments

Things took a porcine turn last episode, so I was thrilled to see the Project Runway producers go a little softer (or maybe soft serve?) on the All Stars this week, plying them with stupidly named gelato flavors before slapping them with their dubious challenge.

Project Runway All Stars recap: Our feelings on Michael’s win, Miss Piggy’s karate chop, Mondo’s lollipop necklace, and Gordana’s cheerful loss

After last week’s suspiciously reasonable challenge, I worried about what the All Stars were going to have to reckon with next time around. Lo, my instincts proved accurate, for this week’s challenge must be one of, if not the most, spirit-crushing challenges in Project Runway’s sordid history.

Project Runway gossip: Christian Siriano to design wedding gowns and Heidi Klum is back on the market

Comments

Photo via Twitter

Arguably the most fierce Project Runway winner, Christian Siriano, recently announced (via Twitter, how else?) that he has an upcoming bridal collaboration with U.S. retailer Nordstrom. The designer gave his followers a sneak peek of the first dress, and while it’s not exactly a “hot mess” it leaves us wanting more. It seems Siriano has traded in his signature volume and drama for a safe and—dare we say it—slightly boring creation. (Siriano has since deleted the tweet, but because nothing ever disappears from the internet, the picture remains!)

The news is somewhat ironic considering Project Runway host Heidi Klum confirmed her divorce from husband Seal this morning. Read more »

Project Runway All Stars recap: Our feelings on Austin’s win, April’s blood ombré, Kara’s hand gestures, and Georgina Chapman’s nude lipstick

As I crawled into my burrow to watch this week’s All Stars, it occurred to me that I was perhaps approaching the new/old cast with too much unwarranted resentment. I know that you know just how difficult it is to resuscitate an old love for the formerly eliminated—that’s why we appreciate being given a blank slate with each new season of Project Runway Old School. This week was a lesson in moving on, not just for me, but for the contestants. Really, it’s not so difficult to see one another with fresh eyes! All that’s needed are new bangs, and the most affecting change of all: editing.

Project Runway All Stars recap: We chart our feelings throughout the best and worst moments from the premiere

In the New Testament world of Project Runway All Stars, losers from seasons past are being judged anew. Eleven of the contestants will be deemed unworthy for a second time*, and one will claw his or her way to redemption—and a brand new technology suite from HP! Is it worth it? I can’t tell. Now, into the tense and cosseted world of Project Runway All Stars!

*Technically, Anthony has already lost twice, bless his heart.

Apparently Vera Wang will design Isaac Mizrahi’s wedding dress

Comments

Is it just us, or does cloudy day such as this become much brighter with a little bit of Isaac Mizrahi? Well, here’s your daily dish of the designer, who appeared on the Wendy Williams show to pimp the upcoming season of Project Runway as well as to gab about his recent nuptials. After gay marriage was legalized in New York last summer, Mizrahi and his longtime partner Arnold Germer decided to tie the knot, but once Vera Wang was mentioned, the two decided to elope to city hall. Well, not to worry kids. The couple is planning a big blowout next yer, and Vera Wang will most certainly be called. For what, we’re not exactly sure, but hey! Anything goes, as long as it’s not Nanook of the North.

TFW diary: Baby Steinberg’s vision was clear, but her execution faltered

Baby Steinberg Spring 2012

I have to commend designer Baby Steinberg on her unique portrayal of Spring 2012. It’s not often we see clothes made out of remnants of old fabrics and reprocessed materials. Her vision to create “something from nothing” is creative, however, when boundaries are pushed too far, there often comes a downside. Rather than looking like a runway collection, Steinberg’s execution felt like an episode of Project Runway, in which contestants are challenged to create clothing from scraps. Looks such as an unzipped skirt with a cropped fringe black and white top came off too sloppy, and a long black woven one-shoulder dress proved to be too difficult for a model to walk in. I cringed at times, just hoping these pieces wouldn’t rip apart at the seams, especially a stencil-cut top made of tissue paper. More like art pieces than couture, this collection is hardly practical, except for, maybe, the skin-tight knitted red mini dress with pink and white roses.
