Prada Spring 2013 Ad Campaign

It’s been a couple of months since we first feasted on Prada’s Spring 2013 collection, but any weariness of those toe sock/thong shoes has all been washed away with the just-released spring campaign.

Simply put, Prada’s Spring 2013 collection was a whole lotta Japan-meets-sixties look, and it seems that streamlined styling was the name of the game for the Steven Meisel-shot advertising images. The modeling A-list amongst its stars include Raquel Zimmerman, Saskia de Brauw, Eva Herzigova, Sasha Pivovarova, who all pose against stark grey backgrounds in furry coats, hot pants, daisy sunglasses and more. The flatform heels with the toe socks make a re-appearance but have been styled in a way that we know when Fall 2013 street style photos come pouring in, these shoes have the potential to shot day after day.

Lanvin continues the “real people” trend, casting some seriously fabulous older ladies as fall campaign stars

First Dolce & Gabbana, then American Apparel and now Lanvin have all given their stamps of approval on the real-person-as-model phenomenon, with Alber Elbaz being the latest to prominently feature non-models in his designs.

After images of Lanvin’s Steven Meisel–lensed fall campaign first surfaced online last week, the interweb was desperately trying to pinpoint who exactly the Hitchcock-meets-punk blonde and glamorous advanced age models were. Turns out, they’re part of a motley cast of everyday women, including a waiter, a milliner and a recent U.S. immigrant. The older beauty is the only one who’s been named so far: she’s Advanced Style muse Jacquie “Rajah” Murdock, an ex-Apollo showgirl who’s always dreamed of going to Paris to model (now thanks to Elbaz, she’s finally gotten her moment in front of the lens).

“I was interested to bring these clothes back to the street somehow, and seeing how they look on different ages, different sizes,” Elbaz told WWD. “It felt like a crazy family, and I like that.”

The campaign may not be slated for release until September, but a viral video will be unveiled on August 21. If it’s anything like the last Lanvin video (remember Karen Elson and Raquel Zimmermann dancing straight-faced to Pitbull?), it will be amazing.

Ah Paris, its finally time that we bid you adieu. As we part ways (seas), we look back at the last day of shows, when we caught some of our biggest stars. Look out for another model extravaganza featuring Kate Moss and Natalia Vodianova, as well as celebs like Nicole Ritchie and Joel Madden. We also spotted one piece from Prada’s spring collection, which begs the question: when can we order?

Apparently we want it: Watch Karen Elson, Raquel Zimmermann, and Alber Elbaz dance to Pitbull in Lanvin’s new campaign video!

Comments

Two words you never thought you’d hear in the same sentence: Lanvin and Pitbull (like the singer, not the dog). Well, friends, think again. The label’s fall campaign video features Karen Elson, Raquel Zimmermann, two studly male models/dancers, and Alber Elbaz himself (!!!) dancing through the new collection to the rapper’s timeless classic, “I Know You Want Me.” At first, we were feeling slightly confused as to whether or not we were really into the concept, but then Alber shows up and the video immediately turns into the best thing ever. Don’t believe us? Watch for yourself!

A 50th anniversary is reason to celebrate, and that is just what Nicholas Kirkwood is doing. In honour of the UK-based store Liberty of London‘s Carnaby Street location, the brand is using two of their best-known floral prints-the Bounty and the Santa Maria-and covering a pair of their signature heels with the prints. Fingers crossed these styles make their way across the pond. [Fashionista]

Recent attempts made by the trendy label Modern Amusement, including the departure of it’s CEO and company-wide layoffs, weren’t enough to save the brand. The company known best for it’s crow logo has has shut down operations, leaving boutiques and department stores without their spring shipments. [WWD] Read more »

How long does it take you to see Raquel Zimmermann in this McQueen ad?

It really did take us a while to spot Zimmermann in this Nick Knight-snapped ad for Alexander McQueen‘s Spring 2010 campaign. First you see the shoe (oh that infamous shoe) and then your eye travels up and right, putting the image together piece by piece until you arrive at a Medusa-like clutch of hair and serpent. A first rate puzzle. (Oh please someone make this a puzzle!) [via Refinery29]
