The approach of winter always seems to bring out one thing on red carpets: the classic Hollywood approach to makeup. That is, deep red lips, thick black lashes and liner, and hair that’s swept into voluminous curls or a simple updo. This weekend, both Anne Hathaway and Julianne Hough graced the red carpet in this timeless manner.

See all our favourite red carpet SJP hat moments »

Fresh off the Australian premiere of I Don’t Know How She Does It, Sarah Jessica Parker continued touring Down Under last week. Her antipode appearances were of the usual press-junket variety—except for the inclusion of bold headwear at two events for the Melbourne Spring Racing Carnival. Read more »

Vote! Best look from the MTV Europe Awards red carpet: Jessie J, Selena Gomez, Katy Perry, Bar Refaeli

Comments

While Justin Bieber and Lady Gaga were the big winners on stage at last night’s MTV Europe Music Awards, we have our top picks for best dressed on the red carpet. Singer Jessie J kept her typically ferocious look going strong with a black and yellow leopard print dress by Dolce & Gabbana—one of many outfits she wore during the night. Selena Gomez also made multiple outfit changes during the awards (9 to be exact!), but with good reason: she was hosting the show. We love her in this white long-sleeved minidress by Marchesa, it certainly pulls the focus away from those pesky rumours surrounding her boyfriend…  Moving on! Katy Perry continues her retro-girl vibe with pink pin-up curls (we’re thankful she finally touched up her roots) and a Grease-worthy ensemble from Jeremy Scott’s Spring 2012 collection. The designer was also her date to the show. And model Bar Refaeli wore a custom-designed dress by Replay, which, if you like it, can be described as having an ombre waterfall hem. If you don’t like it, we’re not entirely opposed to the term “mullet dress.”

TIFF poll: Do you like Malin Akerman’s dress?

Malin Akerman sported this shiny red J.Mendel gown to the premiere of The Bang Bang Club, in which she stars opposite Ryan Philippe. The colour is lovely, especially with all the variations in tone, but the whole things seems too stiff and shiny. Plus there’s something about the straps and the side panels that makes us think of the X-Men, which Akerman wasn’t in, but nevertheless, we can’t stop thinking about when we look at this dress.

You’ve heard our thoughts. What do you think? Read more »

Just when we thought any semblance of glamour had gone out of TIFF, Jennifer Connelly swoops in in a sleek and cool YSL Resort 2011 tux. The actress attended the premiere of Dustin Lance Black‘s What’s Wrong With Virginia, where she plays the title role, and which also stars Ed Harris, Emma Roberts and cutie newcomer Harrison Gilbertson.

TIFF poll: Who wore it best? Rachel Weisz and Rebecca Hall in duelling jumpsuits

Comments

We’ve got another hot battle on our hands today on Who Wore it Best?: Jumpsuit edition. Rebecca Hall is back for another round of judgment on her red YSL number, but this time we’re having her face off against Rachel Weisz, who wore a creamy vintage jumpsuit to last night’s premiere of The Whistleblower. Does Hall’s look (which, for the record, we liked–ignoring the somewhat ill-fitting bustier top) fare better here, or does Weisz’s stab at relaxed glam come out on top?

TIFF poll: Natalie Portman in Jason Wu. Good, bad or blah?

Comments

Photography by Alfredo E. Rodriguez/Getty Images

With apologies to Jason Wu, I think we’re all a little disappointed that Natalie Portman didn’t bust out the Rodarte for the Black Swan premiere. (Though, as our friends at Toronto Life have pointed out, this hasn’t been an exciting fest, style wise.) But let’s collect ourselves and consider the frock at hand. Do you like it? Read more »
