It’s been 46 years since Yardley of London introduced Twiggy Lashes and Twiggy Eye Paint to help the masses replicate the doll-like stare of the model of that and many more moments, but her gaze lingers on. This is a season of 1960s-inflected eyes, reimagined as a thick strip of fringe and pale blue lids at Giorgio Armani, spiky top-and-bottom falsies at Moschino and smoky shadow with mile-long lashes at Gucci. The difference now is that we have the benefit of 21st-century cosmetic technology: Faux lashes are being made with laser-cut paper, feathers and mink, and mascara wands are so painstakingly sculpted and engineered, they resemble tiny topiaries. Beauty Fix: Why you should try a neutral blush, a unique fragrance for summer and more answers to your beauty questions
Every week our Beauty Fix columnist takes on your questions about makeup, skincare, hair and more. Have a beauty question we haven’t answered? Email us at email@example.com.
I feel like it’s difficult to find a fragrance that is truly atypical and stands out from what I already own and what others around me wear. Any suggestions?
As we all know, fragrance is extremely personal and subjective. It’s fairly common knowledge that the way fragrance smells on skin varies from person to person, dependent on the acidity of the skin. That being said, who wouldn’t want something that’s less identifiable upon first smell and perhaps a bit more intriguing to passersby? If you’re looking for something that’s a different olfactory experience, check out Lush’s range of Gorilla Perfumes. The collection of nine fragrances is very much the antidote to other perfumes you own in a uniquely refreshing way. First, each scent was inspired by English art, music, people and memories. The range include notes that allude to specific, intriguing smells such as whisky, espresso, clary sage and French cigarettes, but are still blended with traditional notes such as frangipani, tonka bean, and jasmine. The end result is a collection that is a welcomed departure from the norm. My pick for spring is Lush Sun (starting at $15, lush.ca), which is an eau de parfum that contains Brazilian orange oil, sandalwood and mimosa—sure to give you pep in your step as we wait for the weather to turn!
Introducing Revlon’s Nude Expressions nail polish collection: 8 neutral shades that match your mani to your skin tone
Amidst the neon nail polishes, textured manicures and creative nail art, sometimes all we want is a simple, polished manicure. Enter the new nail polish collection from Revlon that is giving us exactly that. The iconic beauty brand has just launched Nude Expressions, a collection of eight neutral nail polishes. The shades are designed to match many skin tones for a minimalist style that is right on trend with the 1990s beauty look of the moment.
Modeled by actress and Revlon representative Olivia Wilde, the limited edition polishes include shades such as “Cool Beige” and “Natural Tan.” Both light and dark hues are included, and they vary from pink to yellow undertones—making the colours seem more like foundation or concealer than a typical nail polish range. Indeed, the “mannequin hands” look is back. Read more »
It may have occurred at the very end of Toronto Fashion Week, but the makeup and nails at Lucian Matis set the bar for Fall 2013 beauty trends. Of course, having some talented heavyweights on board certainly helped: Revlon global artistic director Gucci Westman and Revlon nail expert Leeanne Colley were behind the retro look.
Despite a scheduling conflict that prevented Westman from actually being backstage, she didn’t want to pass up the chance to work with Lucian Matis. Skype sessions allowed for proper collaboration with the designer and once the look was finalized, her right-hand gal, Mimi Imanishi, led the team in Toronto.
“The inspiration for this look was Lucian’s gorgeous, monochromatic colour palette while incorporating safari khaki tones to the eye. This look is also very much inspired by the ’60s, specifically, the German model, Veruschka,” Westman said, via press release. Read more »

Whatever the trend, we’re still in love with nail art and it seems like most of the internet is too. Read on for some of the best tutorials and news stories that we’ve come across this week—and see how long you can resist reaching for a bottle of nail polish.16.
