Wi-Fi and roaming might still be a bit dodgy here in Milan, where you can find ancient ruins right in the middle of the luxury shopping district. But as we saw over the weekend, designers have the digital revolution all sewn up. Here are the top trends for Milan Fashion Week Fall 2013.

Oscars 2013 Red Carpet

The yearlong reign of Angelina’s Right Leg has officially come to an end. Oscars 2013’s fresh crop of red carpet wows is sure to erase that blunder from our minds, at least for a few days.

Last night’s red carpet was awash with the spectrum’s palest shades. From the serene to the layer cake-like, white and pale pink took top A-list honours. And starting at the very top, Academy Award winner for best actress, Jennifer Lawrence, did Christian Dior proud in her latest look from the house. Plucked from the house’s Spring 2013 couture collection, the frothy pale pink dress was a much more feminine look than we’re used to for Lawrence, but beautiful just the same. As for that pre-acceptance speech slip up the stairs? We’ll just file that, along with this list of her epic Oscars facial expressions, away with all the ways she’s endeared us to her. Another in the pink corner, was supporting actress award winner Anne Hathaway, who stunned in a sleek petal pink Prada dress. And where the extreme side-boob pleats made for some easy jokes by many, we are head-over-heels for the look, especially its open back detailing which Hathaway paired with Tiffany & Co. jewels worn backwards.

Charlize Theron made the strongest case for white, wearing one of the night’s best dresses, another Christian Dior Haute Couture, featuring a deep V-neck strapless cut and a slight peplum waist. Babe, to say the least. Also sporting pale shades, were Zoe Saldana, Kristen Stewart and Amanda Seyfried, in varying shades of grey and cream, and Oscars 2013 nominee Jessica Chastain, who did her best Jessica Rabbit in a stunning light copper and white custom Giorgio Armani dress.

And speaking of Armani! While the rest of red carpet season seemed to be deadset on introducing the world to younger talents like Erdem, Marios Schwab, Simone Rocha and Alexander Vaulthier, Giorgio Armani made a big statement last night, with Chastain, Naomi Watts and Quvenzhané Wallis helping to reclaim its red carpet domination.

So, who came out on-top? Vote in our Oscars 2013 red carpet poll!

Grammys 2013: 10 of the best dressed singers and starlets on the red carpet

Best Dressed 2013 Grammys

Despite a memo from CBS warning stars to cover up, there was still much skin to be seen on the 2013 Grammy Awards red carpet. Most notable was Katy Perry, who stunned in a mint-green Gucci Resort 2013 dress that was skin-tight and featured an embellished keyhole detail which showed off her ample cleavage. Perry’s look was part Priscilla Presley, part Lana Del Rey and she certainly pulled off the ’70s-inspired style well.

Solange Knowles also wore green, though her beaded Ralph & Russo Couture gown was more of a vibrant emerald hue. Solange is known for her quirky and colourful outfits and her neon-pink Louboutins added personality to her look. Solange’s dress featured a thigh-high slit—a style that was seen on a number of starts last night at the 2013 Grammys. (Clearly Angie’s right leg is still dictating red carpet trends!) Jennifer Lopez took the slit to the next level with an Anthony Vaccarello Spring 2013 gown that seemed to almost tuck in like a pair of hot pants at the top of her thigh. The asymmetrical draped black silk gown certainly showed off her toned body and was set off with shiny gold accessories—and a matching pointy gold manicure.

Black and white was definitely a trend at the 2013 Grammys, as it was for the Golden Globes and SAG Awards red carpet. Beyoncé wore both black and white in an architectural jumpsuit by Osman. The somewhat casual-yet-still-smoking look was certainly one of a kind on the red carpet and Beyoncé accessorized with black and white cuffs and a red pout. Our former cover girl Carly Rae Jepsen wowed in a dark, metallic Roberto Cavalli gown. The mermaid silhouette looked amazing with her dark hair, porcelain skin and enviable body. Carrie Underwood also wore a black strapless mermaid silhouette gown by Roberto Cavalli—though where Jepsen’s was beaded, Underwood’s dress featured lace and embroidery. Read more »

Jerome Lamaar Fashion Cartoons

Fashion illustration has long made our hearts skip several beats and luckily the blogosphere is full of talented artists who love to take the latest runway looks and turn them into beautifully rendered imaginative hand sketches (giving our eyes a fashionable feast). But with the recent rise in this art form’s popularity, it can be difficult to find sketches that really stand out among the many. Which is why we’re loving the work of a Mr. Jerome LaMaar, whom we discovered this morning reinterprets classic cartoon characters in the coolest looks from the Spring 2013 collections.

Everyone’s favourite Sailor Moon girls don labels like Balmain, Céline, Prada, Givenchy and Dries Van Noten’s grunge couture; Betty Boop flirts it up in Alaia; Jem (of The Holograms) gets attention-grabbing Balenciaga and Daria trades her usual green jacket and brown pleated skirt for colourful Marni prints. And that’s just naming a few. Alexander Wang, Chloé and Roberto Cavalli all get mentions as well. Read more »

As Milan Fashion Week Spring 2013 comes to an end, it’s obvious who the key players are in influencing what will dictate the top trends of Spring 2013. The pieces you once thought were only Fall/Winter specific (ie. fur and leather)? Designers are very loudly telling you otherwise. In Milan this season, it looks as if designers have collectively developed a “go big or go home” philosophy with their use of fabrics, hefty embellishments and mannish silhouettes.

The truth lies in Paris where the Spring 2013 collections will get their final verdict. Certain trends that have dominated New York, London and Milan have obviously secured their spot next season but it will be interesting to see the Parisian approach to Spring 2013. As of now, it’s clear what direction fashion is headed in, but you never know what those French masters have up their sleeves—don’t start pulling out the leather and stripes yet, Paris may throw us for a curveball.

Stripes, toques and leather oh my! With Milan Fashion Week Spring 2013 winding down and Paris next in line, photographer Stefania Yarhi caught the tail end of eccentric street styles in and around the shows.

With the weather not quite down to chilly temps just yet, Yarhi’s lens captured fall trends already in full swing. The fashion crowd stayed warm outside shows in denim, leather and fur, all the while being trumped by a brilliant forest green leather jacket and pink pant combo worn by none other than street style queen Anna Dello Russo.
