Miley Cyrus’ pixie cut just keeps getting shorter and shorter

Miley Cyrus shorter hair pixie cut

Miley Cyrus is the definition of scissor happy. She first cut off her long flowing locks in favour of a punky pixie cut in August, and now she has revealed an even shorter style.

Last time she cut off her hair, we noted that she resembled Swedish pop-singer Robyn, but now the resemblance is uncanny. Her new haircut is shaved tightly to the sides of her head and a small faux-hawk tuft of hair has been left at the top—like a last, dying gasp of air from Miley’s bun. Her new fixation with punk-inspired haircuts suits her updated wardrobe, which lately has had more of an edgy rocker vibe than former Disney star. (Will Miley Cyrus’ forthcoming album have the same aesthetic and sound?)

Check out Miley’s new hair!»

Miley Cyrus’ newest hair do—a punk-inspired bleached out crop cut courtesy of stylist Chris McMillan—has us thinking the former Disney starlet might be taking a cue from Madonna’s guide on how to stay relevant. In the last few months, we’ve seen Miley shed her signature waist-length locks for a more sophisticated, shoulder-length cut. Shortly after she experimented with the ombre look, then settled on a flattering honey blonde colour. Now Cyrus has surprised us again with this drastic, but awesome, game-changing look that has her channeling our favourite Swedish pop star, Robyn. Miley debuted her latest haircut on Twitter, where she donned a pair of black creepers and a very punky silver barbed wire necklace. The actress has professed her love of Chanel, so we’re thinking her newest style foray might be a tribute to Uncle Karl’s Candyland Punk resort collection.

It’s 26 minutes and 11 seconds into the third episode of HBO’s Girls. A struggling writer named Hannah Horvath, played by the show’s 26-year-old creator/star, Lena Dunham, is in her bedroom staring at a laptop. She’s just endured the most hellish month of her adult life: Her parents have stopped paying her rent, her doctor has diagnosed her with HPV and her former college boyfriend has let her know that her “handsomeness” helped him realize his attraction to men.

Instead of having a breakdown, Hannah decides to throw down. She double clicks an MP3 of Robyn’s “Dancing On My Own,” jumps off her bed and swings her tattooed arms to the gunning beat. Her impeccably put-together roommate, Marnie, played by 24-year-old Allison Williams, catches Hannah’s impromptu dance party and joins in. Together in their tiny Brooklyn apartment they hair-flip the pain away, share a hug and make the tragic magic. The credits roll. Read more »

Music festival style snaps: Bonnaroo

Comments

Despite Sahara-like temps and Dust Bowl-esque air quality, more than 80, 000 music lovers (including yours truly) camped out on a farm outside Nashville, Tennessee, for Bonnaroo, a four-day music fest that brought together the likes of Arcade Fire, Lil Wayne, Sleigh Bells, Robyn and Girl Talk, alongside a Ferris wheel, a massive waterslide and a whole lot of glow sticks. Among the throngs of mainly swimsuit-wearing attendees, we spotted a whole bunch of cuteness in the form of gals (and a few rockstar guys) decked out in modern-day hippie garb. Check out some of our favourites!

Sarah Taylor’s FASHION + music picks: “Indestructible” by Robyn and Taylor Swift’s Speak Now

Comments

Taylor Swift, Speak Now

I’m going to tell you a secret: I’ve never written a song about a boy that I loved. Poems? Sure. But set to music takes those words to a whole other level.  One of my favorite quotes about music–from the movie High Fidelity, which by the way has a great soundtrack–asks: Did I listen to pop music because I was miserable? Or was I miserable because I listened to pop music? The truth is neither are probably true but it’s undeniable that most of us listen to love songs because we’re either in it or out of it. The lovely, beautiful and talented Taylor Swift is no stranger to this notion and has most definitely found success with that very truth. Her latest album, Speak Now, dropped last month, making it two years since her phenomenally popular Fearless. Since then she has continued to date some of the world’s most famous men including that Jonas brother and, reportedly, John Mayer and Jake Gyllenhaal. Impressive I must say. But the question is after all this public romance does she remain fearless about love?  I guess we’ll have to listen to the album to hear the details.

Also, Miss Swift is gracing the cover of the Winter issue FASHION Magazine, so check out her exclusive interview there and also a replay of her recent Live@Much at muchmusic.com .

Introducing our next FASHION + Music guest editor: MuchMusic VJ Sarah Taylor

My closest friends know that every time the seasons change I become a little extra romantic, nostalgic and dreamy while inevitably proclaiming the upcoming season to be my favorite of all time. I’m unaffected by their long eye rolls and I usually take comfort in the current musical soundtrack of my life in those moments. They always seem to punctuate my thoughts and emotions in a much more beautiful and graceful way than whatever reality could ever deliver. Read more »
