Rose-printed glasses: 7 pairs of floral sunnies

ERDEM Spring 2010. Photography by Peter Stigter

Floral prints reigned on the spring runways on ruffled minis, bold bloomers and flirty frocks, but Erdem’s watercolour sunglasses for Cutler & Gross are our favourite incarnation of the seasonal flower power. We’ve shopped around and found 7 pairs of floral sunnies you’re going to love.

Daily Steal

The daily steal: Retro-chic sunglasses, $35

FMsteal0210kensie_lg

Psst, ladies! Just because it’s winter doesn’t mean that the sun’s damaging rays are hibernating. Whether, you’re on the slopes or the street, opt for a pair of sunnies with 100 per cent UV protection, like Kensie’s ($35, at Sears) chic retro-inspired version. After all, looking like a spring chicken never goes out of style.

Saskatoon: A wardrobe of shades

sum09glasses_sm

Sunglasses are like shoes–a single pair isn’t going to work with every outfit.  You need a collection. For example, you could wear your aviators for driving, D&Gs for meeting the girls for lunch on the patio, Oakleys for an afternoon game of tennis, Ray-Bans for a day in the park.  My all-time favorites are the aviators I’ve had forever, but when I do need new designer specs, I head to Midtown Plaza (1st Ave. S., midtownplaza.ca), which has a couple of stops I can count on. The merch room: Ray-Ban

apr09raybansp_lg

I found these amazing Ray-Bans (from $155) in the fashion closet today. They made me think of the kids in The Breakfast Club and a young half-naked, pre-couch jumping Tom Cruise. Yes my friends, the ’80s are back. Read the rest of this entry »

Nothing says winter blues combat like a flashy pair of shades. At Ontario Specialty Co (133 Church St., 416-366-9327), you’ll find one of my favorite selections of vintage sunglasses in every possible color and style.

But don’t just take my word for it: fans of the shop include the likes of Alice Cooper, The Clash, Sean Lennon, Beck, Alec Baldwin and Danny Masterson (a.k.a. Hyde from That ’70s Show), who bought 48 pairs.
