Tech pick: The new BlackBerry Torch

Earlier this week, we attended the launch of the BlackBerry Torch 9800 (at select mobile providers). As fairly fresh users of the Curve, we were excited to take the Torch for a test drive. The difference is unreal. The pinch-and-zoom touch screen is smooth and responsive. (Don’t worry if touch typing isn’t your thing, because it also has a slide-out keypad.) There’s a 5 mega-pixel camera and a better browser, but for us, the topper was when we found out that when the Torch is paired with the BlackBerry Music Gateway, so you can play tracks wirelessly through any stereo and use your smartphone as a remote control. (Just this afternoon we took a dance break with Eric B. & Rakim.) Truly, next level.

Dell collaborates with Threadless on some charming laptop art

Comments

Putting stickers on your laptop is never a good idea. They inevitably begin to peel off and then the employees at the Mac Store Genius Bar always raise an eyebrow at the grey sticky residue polluting the shell of your Macbook when all you really wanted was a functioning track pad.

In a series of partnerships, the folks over at Dell have teamed up with the likes of OPI and Product (Red) to add a little bit of pep to their laptops, making further bedazzlement unnecessary. In their most recent collabo, they’ve joined forces with Threadless (threadless.com), a global graphic design community with over 80,000 members, to bring 11 new laptop lids featuring work from Threadless’s user-submitted portfolio. The designs add US$85 to the purchase of one of Dell’s Studio 15 laptops, but they make for a fine bit of embellishment. And tell us those two lovebirds perched on the deer’s back isn’t the cutest thing you’ve ever seen.

Another collaboration is upon us—this time Dell has partnered with OPI to bring us laptops in a variety of nail polish hues. “Kyoto Pearl,” “Rosy Future” and “I’m Not Really a Waitress” (shown) are among the 26 shades available. How satisfying would it be to match your mani to your machine? Unless you’re a MAC person, that is. What do you think? Are you this into nail polish? Tell us in the comments! [Engadget]

There’s a reason us FASHION girls hire real photographers to take all the pretty pictures—because buttons are Hard. But now that we’re doing so many videos on fashionmagazine.com, are obsessed with runway shows on YouTube and we need to make sure we take hi-larious videos of ourselves and our stylish friends at all our events, we’re going to bite the bullet and learn to video record our very own selves. Technology and I have not always had an easy relationship. (Our Facebook status would most definitely read, “It’s complicated.”) Sure, I’m grateful for modern medicine and air travel, but what about the night my laptop crashed mere hours before my essay on women in 19th century British poetry was due? I knew then that we were entering a rough patch.
