On the eve of Sienna and Savannah Miller’s departures from Twenty8Twelve, we look back at the top 10 best and worst celebrity fashion lines

We were shocked to hear that one of the first (and few) celebrity lines to succeed, Twenty8Twelve, announced today that notoriously stylish Sienna Miller and her designer sister Savannah Miller have left the label. Come fall, the label will change its name from Twenty8Twelve by s. miller to Twenty8Twelve London. Despite the loss of the two co-creative directors, the brand will still show at the upcoming London fashion week, and has plans to expand into e-commerce and open a new store in New York (in addition to their successful London stores and sales in department stores worldwide).

This news about one of the most prominent celebrity lines got us thinking about celebrity status and fashion-line success. We revisit 10 of the best and worst celebrity fashion lines out there and give you our verdicts.

We count ‘em in no particular order »

With 2011 wrapping up, many end-of-year lists have been popping up. Today, Forbes released their twelve 30 Under 30 lists of people who are making a mark in their respective fields. Fashion folk have a large presence in the art and design category.

The industry’s latest bright young things that made the cut include Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen who have become respected fashion designers for their high-end line, The Row, which sold out of their $35,000 bags and designed T-shirts for shopping site stylemint.com. It’s no surprise that Pamela Love and Alexander Wang are included in the list, considering both of their brands’ successes this past year. Rounding out the fashionable list is recent CDFA/Vogue Fashion Fund winner and industry darling Joseph Altuzarra. Tavi Gevinson, 15-year-old former fashion blogger turned editor-in-chief of teen cool-girl magazine Rookie repped fashion in the media category. Read more »

Jenna Lyons talks designer crushes, life in Brooklyn and her quest for Zen

My style: Jenna Lyons

What was your first job at J.Crew?
“I started 20 years ago. I was an assistant to an assistant.”

Are you bringing back company loyalty?
[Laughs] “I never in a million years dreamed that I would be at the same [place]. I spend more time at my job than I do with my family, so my job does feel like a family.”

What’s your secret to becoming a fashion powerhouse? What advice would you give to someone starting out?
“Love what you do. The people who I see as successful [are those who] stay in the moment and try and do the best they can. Those are the people you want to promote. They’re the ones who are thinking about new ideas and trying to do their job better.”

NYFW diary: 6 shows, 3 shoe changes, 2 blisters, and 1 Lara bar

Comments

Models backstage at Peter Som shot by Wendell Teodoro/WireImage

Six shows, three shoe changes, two blisters, and one Lara bar (no wonder fashion NYers are so skinny…no time to eat!) Hours into the day, I’ve got enough florals, pyjamas, and bright colours to last me a lifetime.

Peter Som started things off with a colorful bang, giving us acid-bright pinks, blues, and tangerines. Blown-up digital floral prints made a big impact, and the ‘60s influence we saw for fall made a strong showing in the form of box tops, swing shifts, and a cropped baby blue pant suit. On a more modern note, many of the pieces were paired with sporty, anorak detailing.

Nicole Richie hit Toronto to celebrate with TNT. We’ve got a Q&A!

Comments

Nicole Ritchie shot by Jenna Marie Wakani

Last night, the stylish set filled the new TNT flagship at Toronto’s Hazelton Lanes in Yorkville to celebrate the store’s 20th anniversary as well as to peep the brand new multileveled shopping emporium, which has expanded to 18,000 square feet. That means even more space for ultra-covetable merch from Helmut Lang, The Row, Theyskens’ Theory and more! Across the sprawling space, homegrown likes of Greta Constantine, Payne, and Camille and Laurence were all on hand to debut their newest collections and raise a glass (and a pretty penny) in honour of the Toronto Fashion Incubator.

While the soirée seemed to attract just about every designer, socialite and fashion personality around⎯even Dan Levy came home from LaLa land to make an appearance!⎯the real star of the night was deb-cum-designer Nicole Richie, who hit the town to promote her lines House of Harlow and Winter Kate. We snatched her away from legions of adoring fans to chat about all things style and asked if a Canadian collab could be in the works!
