“Lukewarm royalty with a whip from outer space”: Anna Wintour on Letterman

Comments

picture-3

Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour made an appearance on The Late Show last night to pump up The September Issue and her shopping initiative, Fashion’s Night Out. Ms. Wintour didn’t shock us with a sudden bout of warmth and cheerfulness, but showed some sharp humour–the title above is a self assessment based on epithets she read in the newspaper. Dave asked such standard questions as (I’m paraphrasing): Are you really such a hard ass? How can you be fashionable with no money? (Answer: Buy a lipstick, which we totally agree with). Letterman didn’t seem to have the highest opinion of fashion–he brushed off Wintour’s suggestion of Thom Browne (she was making fun of him), stated that he didn’t know anyone with a fashion budget (which we doubt is true) and wondered if the magazine’s fabled last minute reshoots are the norm: “Absolutely. As it is for a TV show, I mean, you guys didn’t even call me til Friday.” Ouch.

Note to interviewers: Anna will never cop to The Devil Wears Prada being about her, so please, stop trying.

Video: André Leon Talley has the best tennis outfit ever

In the latest September Issue clip to hit (honestly, we won’t even have to see the movie by the time it hits screens. Though we totally will.), everyone’s favourite Vogue editor-at-large, André Leon Talley, demonstrates that one does not have to lower oneself to the level of wearing sweatpants just because one is getting sweaty. Check the LV towel and toque ALT is sporting at his tennis lesson, not to mention the Damon Dash pants and vintage diamond Piaget watch. Oh, and a mini LV trunk for his Fiji water. And you wonder why we have a crush.

Video: Grace Coddington vs. giant scarves in The September Issue

Two more clips from The September Issue are making the rounds. The premiere is tonight at the MoMA in New York, but it won’t make it to a theatre near (some of) you until October. The first clip shows some light Sienna Miller hair drama–the blonde bobbed wig they were using to cover her lank hair didn’t really work out, leading to the top knot that eventually made the shot. The second clip features Grace Coddington and her wild hair tending to Raquel Zimmermann, Coco Rocha and some gigantic knits. (Remember those big orange scarves from Giles?)

Enticingly brief clips after the jump. Read more »
