TIFF red carpet: Nicole Kidman disappoints in Prada at the Rabbit Hole premiere

Nicole Kidman went decidedly low-key for the premiere of John Cameron Mitchell‘s Rabbit Hole. Kidman, in a midnight blue Prada dress, was joined by husband Keith Urban and co-stars Aaron Eckhart, Jon Tenney and a newcomer Miles Teller. The colour looks great on Kidman, but the whole look is a bit shapeless and–do our eyes deceive us?–wrinkled.

TIFF red carpet: Natalie Portman in Jason Wu and Winona Ryder in Vuitton at the premiere of Black Swan

One of the most hotly-anticipated movies of the year amongst the fashion crowd is Darren Aronofsky‘s ballet thriller Black Swan, which you may or may not have heard ad nauseum features costumes by Rodarte. Though star Natalie Portman wore Rodarte to the world premiere at the Venice Film Festival, at last night’s TIFF debut , she walked the red carpet in a grey and white frock from Jason Wu‘s Resort 2011 collection. Co-star Winona Ryder also made an appearance, cinched into one of Louis Vuitton‘s curvy Fall 2010 dresses, as did Barbara Hershey, Ksenia Solo, Vincent Cassel, Dominic Cooper, and Aronofsky’s wife, Rachel Weisz.

TIFF party pics: Kenneth Cole talks mix-and-match black, plus red carpet snaps of Kelly Rowland, Martin Sheen and more

There’s nothing like celebrity endorsement to open hearts (read: wallets) for a good cause. So when Kenneth Cole, Kelly Rowland, Martin Sheen, Emilio Estevez signed up to attend the event, so did the majority of the Porche-driving population of Rosedale.

The result was some yummy black tie style, and some yummier conversations with Kenneth Cole and Kelly Rowland. See my Q&A with Cole after the jump.

TIFF party pics: Pierre Bergé and YSL muses Loulou de la Falaise and Betty Catroux at the premiere of L’amour fou

It is a rare occasion indeed for Torontonians to rub shoulders with a fashion titan like Yves Saint Laurent‘s longtime partner, and co-ounder of YSL Rive Gauche, Pierre Bergé. But rub shoulders they did–an elite group, anyway–at the after party for the world premiere of Pierre Thoretton‘s documentary, L’amour fou. The film, which traces Saint Laurent’s career through the lens of his relationship with Bergé, and the ultimate auctioning off of their collection of art, furniture and objets, features extensive conversations with Bergé, as well as talks with the designer’s muses Loulou de la Falaise and Betty Catroux, who were staples on the Paris fashion scene. Freida Pinto hit the red carpet in an Alexander McQueen dress for the premiere of Woody Allen‘s You Will Meet a Tall Dark Stranger. Also in attendance were the director, Pinto’s boyfriend, actor Dev Patel, Josh Brolin, Anthony Hopkins and Lucy Punch.
