Jennifer Lawrence TIFF Red Carpet

Even IRL, Jennifer Lawrence is the girl on fire. Choosing very different yet equally striking looks for three of her TIFF appearances, looked as if to be playing three Cinna-approved parts. First, it was what we’ll call the District 12 look: At the premiere of A Place Beyond the Pines, Lawrence paired a cobalt blue lace Dior halter dress with a simple cat-eye, and pulled back hair (we can’t confirm a side braid). Then it was what we’ll call the Ceaser Flickerman show look: At her own red carpet premiere for The Silver Linings Playbook, Jennifer Lawrence seriously thrilled in a multi-coloured strapless Dior Couture gown, cranberry lips and straight, side-pinned hair. Earlier today, the actress switched it up once more, in a form-fitting white Antonio Berardi day-dress at press conference alongside co-star Bradley Cooper. On her way to the conference, Jennifer Lawrence was shot wearing oversized Ray-Bans, which amped the city slicker look up a notch further. So, which did you like best?

Overheard at TIFF 2012: One part of Ryan Gosling looked so good on the red carpet that it deserves its own Twitter

Comments

It’s clearly not enough to be famous and have a regular old Twitter account these days. No—the really popular accounts are those run by specific celebrity parts, like Miley’s Bun or Angelina’s Right Leg. And considering that Ryan Gosling is already the most meme-ified actor out there, it’s high time a certain asset of his joined Twitter. Thankfully, we’re not alone in this opinion—even Hollywood agents agree. Or so we overheard on Friday, after Ryan Gosling walked the red carpet for A Place Beyond the Pines in an extremely flattering suit: “After tonight, Ryan Gosling’s butt will have a Twitter handle.” Your move, Internet.

TIFF 2012: Jennifer Lawrence hung out with Kristen Stewart at the Soho House last night (Jake Gyllenhaal, Kate Hudson and Andy Samberg were there too!)

As per usual, the Grey Goose Soho House was hoppin’ and poppin’ with celebs last night, as the staple spot hosted private parties for The Reluctant Fundamentalist, End of Watch and Silver Linings Playbook. Kate Hudson, in a Gwyneth-at-the-Oscars-esque white floor-length Atelier Versace dress, mingled pre-The Reluctant Fundamentalist red carpet. The bearded and babeular Jake Gyllenhaal popped by too, to toast his film End of Watch alongside Anna Kendrick and America Ferrera (who is really looking great these days, we might add).

At that point, it was still early and the celebs in attendance were all chatting up their co-stars and pals. But then Jennifer Lawrence showed up, and completely flipped the celebs-who-are-friends continuum on its head when she, in a body-hugging scale-like dress, started chatting to none other than Kristen Stewart! Could Katniss and Bella be new BFFs? Could a Twilight-meets-The Hunger Games movie be in the works? Are we taking this too far? Maybe. Kristen Stewart, who seemed to have shaken Thursday night’s glamazon look, was back to her usual jeans-and-t-shirt pairing. As an equally awesome addition to the mix: Jennifer Lawrence’s parents Gary and Karen Lawrence were also in attendance at the Soho House to toast their daughter’s TIFF premiere.

If TIFF parties were award shows, most would be like the Golden Globes—totally fun, but you’ll never really get to sit with the A-listers. However, for a film like The Perks of Being a Wallflower, the night is more like the MTV VMAs: from up-and-coming stars to fully-certified teen heartthrobs, everyone’s in on the party. (Which, when you think about it, is actually what The Perks of Being a Wallflower is all about.) Despite all eyes being on Nina Dobrev and Emma Watson, they both circled the room throughout the night, stopping to mingle with guests (or Degrassi-era Toronto friends, in Nina Dobrev’s case) and pose for pictures with fans. Both were also dressed in white, frothy florals: a peplum’d Erdem dress for Emma Watson and a intricately beaded Monique Lhuillier gown for Nina Dobrev. Read more »

The GOOP-y goodness that is Gwyneth Paltrow shed its glimmering shimmering light on Toronto last night, as the megawatt star hit the TIFF red carpet for the premiere of her new film Thanks for Sharing. Many giggles ensued as the cast— which also includes a bearded Mark Ruffalo, the still-sexy Ed Norton, a wispy-banged Tim Robbins and Patrick Fugit, who OMG looks way different than he did as the wide-eyed writing prodigy William Miller in Almost Famous—posed for photos. Could they be laughing about sexy jokes? Maybs. The film is about sex addiction after all. LOLs!

TIFF 2012: Elton John swings by Holt Renfrew pre-Fashion Cares

Sir Elton John stood before the Weston family and scores of onlookers in Holt Renfrew‘s Bloor Street shoe department on Saturday morning and gave the crowd a highly-charged pep talk.

“I have been coming to Canada since 1970,” declared the singer, in a pink-spangled shirt and dark suit. “I have always found that Canadians give very much not only with their pockets, but with their hearts and their voices. And I’ve always been very touched. And it’s kind of ironic that I’ve ended up with a Canadian,” he said, glancing around to his Scarborough-raised husband David Furnish.

TIFF 2012: Elle Fanning, Jude Law and Aaron Taylor-Johnson all wore three-piece pantsuits last night

Looks like some A-listers were doing their Fall 2012 trend research: Pantsuits are big for fall. At last night’s premiere of Ginger & Rosa, fashion plate du jour Elle Fanning donned a head-to-toe Miu Miu Fall 2012 geometric-print suit straight from the runway complete with bottle green heeled oxfords. Later that night the Soho House, both Jude Law and Aaron Taylor-Johnson donned similarly-inspired suits (sans the hexagons, of course). So who wore it best? We know there’s really only one answer but…
