Ever since Suno was named a finalist in the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund Award in 2011, the label has been one of the newest it-brands of New York fashion. Known for its bold prints and African-inspired looks, it is no wonder that Michelle Obama, Solange Knowles, and Rachel Bilson are all major fans of the label. Now with a new collaboration, you can get the Suno look for a more affordable price tag. The label has teamed up with Uniqlo for a capsule collection of spring clothing.

The collaboration was created in partnership with Suno designers Max Osterweis and Erin Beatty. It includes a range of printed dresses, pastel skirts, striped tops, and floral patterned jeans that are perfect for summer. We love the casual vibe to the collection that is similar to Suno’s main Spring 2013 runway looks.

Q&A: Sébastien Peigné and Nicola Formichetti of Mugler are bringing sexy back

Sébastien Peigné and Nicola Formichetti of Mugler

Strategic cut-outs, thigh-high slits and body-con shapes: Sébastien Peigné and Nicola Formichetti of Mugler are bringing sexy back.

Reviving Mugler is a monster task. After designer Thierry Mugler took his final runway bow at his couture show in July 2000, this kinky house of cool (remember Demi Moore’s bondage-style dress in 1993’s Indecent Proposal?) started flatlining. Ten years later, the resuscitation began. In 2010, following months of speculation, Nicola Formichetti (Lady Gaga’s stylist) was tapped to lead the revival of the French house known for its over-the-top theatricality and sex appeal. Besides outfitting Mother Monster, this 34-year-old half-Italian, half-Japanese, techno-savvy superstar is also the fashion director for Vogue Hommes Japan and global retailer Uniqlo. His debut Mugler womenswear show during Fall 2011 Paris Fashion Week had the twitterverse buzzing about its latex-dipped leggings, body-stocking dresses and the catwalk pièce de résistance: Gaga, smoking in every sense of the word.

Raf Simons is out, while the real Jil might be back in at Jil Sander! What does this mean for Dior? And for our Sander addiction?

Comments

It’s in-and-out at Jil Sander camp this week after the German fashion house announced this morning that Raf Simons will be presenting his last collection as creative director this Saturday.

The announcement comes amid (double!) speculation that Simons and founder Jil Sander will be making big moves in the near future. Simons has long been considered to be John Galliano’s imminent replacement at Dior, something fashion heavyweights (and us, of course) are gunning for.

And then there’s Sander, who was recently spotted at textile fair Première Vision where she told WWD Japan that she had a top secret new project that would be announced during the Milan collections. And look at that—it’s Milan Fashion Week! It seems a little too coincidental that her namesake house would be shaking things up at the same time, especially with rumours that the 68 year-old-designer could be back at the helm in less than a month.

This is just so much good news speculation! We love Sander’s J+ collaboration at Uniqlo and are huge proponents of Simons’ colourful and minimalist aesthetic, as well as what it could do for Dior. Could things really work out so perfectly?

SNP’s word of the day: Uniqlones

Comments

Word: Uniqlones

Meaning: People who dress head-to-toe in the plain, quality, identikit clothes of Japanese mega-chain Uniqlo. I thought I’d invented this neologism and remembered it again while reading a piece on the company in one of London’s weekend style mags (I was lagged and forget which one it was). But, no, it was also the title of a New York Magazine feature last year. Eff you, New York!

Usage: “That ad agency party was a total attack of the Uniqlones.”

Patrick Robinson is out at Gap… but why?

Comments

We’re barely halfway into 2011 and the fashion world has already seen our fair share of industry shake-ups: the Galliano scandal, Carine Roitfeld’s exit at Vogue Paris, Christophe Decarnin’s mysterious mental illness/ousting at Balmain, and now Patrick Robinson has been booted from the Gap.

While most of the recent switch ups seem to make sense⎯Galliano’s anti-Semitic outburst couldn’t very well go un-reprehended and Decarnin’s health issues were clearly in need of medical attention⎯we found ourselves puzzled upon hearing the news that Robinson had been presented with a pink slip due to lackluster sales in the first quarter of this year. We’ve seen many a powerhouse figure reinstate retail dinosaurs (Bonnie Brooks at The Bay , Jenna Lyons at J.Crew), so why not Robinson at the Gap?

Coco Rocha shares a video she made in honour of her engagement. Warning: A song from Sister Act is involved. [Grazia]

Rocha also spills on her blog that Karl Lagerfeld lent Rocha some of his own accessories to polish off her look for Uncle Karl’s Coca-Cola Light ad campaign. “I remember at one point in the shoot Karl didn’t think I had on the right accessories so he stopped the shoot and headed home to bring me a pair of his own gloves and then took off his tie pin and rings for me to wear!!” [The Cut] Read more »

The Jil Sander collection for Uniqlo was welcomed with such open arms that the designer is collaborating on a second collection for the Japanese brand. It’s set to launch for Spring 2010.  Also on her second lap, Stella McCartney for Gap Kids, with a collection also in the works for spring.  [Fashionista]

In celebrity-turned-designer news, R.E.M.’s Michael Stipe is collaborating with Maison Martin Margiela. The musician’s single piece is a sterling silver microcassette on an unraveling tape chain. The accessory can be worn as a bracelet, necklace, or belt, to name a few plausible suggestions. Only 199 will be available at Maison Martin Margiela boutiques. [Racked] Read more »
