The comprehensive John Galliano update: From Charlie Rose to Vanity Fair, we chart the course of his impending comeback

Comments

John Galliano Charlie Rose

John Galliano is back on the map after a two-year hiatus. The Gibraltar-born British fashion designer, who not so long ago held the reins to one of the biggest fashion houses in the industry, has been the subject of much dispute since his 2011 firing from Dior. Galliano spottings over the past couple of years have been scarce, leaving questions about a possible comeback unanswered. With a new Vanity Fair interview on the stands and a televised one just released online, Galliano seems to be straying from the low profile he’s been keeping contributing to suspicions of a rebound on the horizon. From internships at his designer pal’s atelier to facing blackout drinking, were taking a look at recent developments in John Galliano’s slow but sure return.

Mario Testino for Net-a-Porter: The photographer has designed a Peruvian-inspired charitable capsule collection

Mario Testino for Net-a-Porter

Though musician turned fashion designer stints are becoming the norm, photographer turned designer is something we have yet to come across. Breaking the latest collaboration boundary, Mario Testino is taking time off from behind the lens to design a capsule collection for Net-a-Porter.

Inspired by the rural Peruvian costumes and artisan craftwork captured in his 2013 famed photo series, Alta Moda, the collection includes T-shirts, scarves, caftans and jewellery designed in collaboration with jewellery designer Vicki Beamon (one half of Erickson Beamon). Proceeds of the collection will be donated to the photographer’s own Lima-based charity, MATE.

Testino’s resume is impressive, to say the least. The extent of it is perhaps best summed up in the numbers. The Peru born, London-based photographer’s work has been published in Vogue for 30 years, during which time he’s shot 53 Vogue covers and released 12 books. He was behind the lens for BFF Kate Moss’ wedding shoot (her face covers two of his books) and for Will and Kate’s engagement portrait. The man can do no wrong, and were assuming the same will be said with his latest venture into designing.

The line will launch in early June on Net-a-Porter.com.

New York Fashion Week Spring 2013 8 Intro

Photography by Stefania Yarhi

Check out today’s street style photos from New York Fashion Week!»

Our go-to New York Fashion Week Spring 2013 street style photographer Stefania Yarhi has captured more fashion editors, models and celebrities from outside presentations from Zac Posen, Marc Jacobs and Proenza Schouler among others.

It seems as though some of the stylish ladies that her lens captured are taking advantage of the warm September weather via their sartorial choices seen here. Vogue Japan editor Anna Dello Russo who has been making the rounds this Fashion Week Spring 2013 looked sleek and sexy in a form fitting short black dress, black sunglasses and gold jewellery that accented her golden summer tan, as did model Doutzen Kroes (who was spotted with Kate Bosworth at the Theyskens’ Theory show a few days ago) in a similar outfit of black tank top, shorts and sunglasses. Meanwhile, American Vogue editor Anna Wintour looked summery in a colourful printed dress, and Belgian model Hanne-Gaby Odiele seemed to think it’s still the middle of summer wearing white pants and a purple tie-dyed crop top (although if we had her stomach, we’d probably wear that all year round).

Model Kate Upton is apparently a “lazy, lardy piggie”

Kate Upton’s in-your-face rise to fame may not have had unanimous support, but even the model’s harshest critics have generally credited the girl for having an amazing body. Though she obviously caters more towards the Sports Illustrated crowd, her curvy, feminine figure has been a refreshing (though envy-inducing) change for many women too, especially when compared to the pole-like bodies so often sent down the runway.

However, according to a “pro-thinspiration” site run by an anonymous blogger, Upton is a “lazy, lardy” piggie. The writer, who described herself as a former model who weighs in at 100 pounds, posted images of Upton in a bikini, deeming the blonde bombshell as “a solid 30 lbs too heavy” to wear it.
