Today was the first of three engagements that Will and Kate will be making this week, and oh, are we ever off to a great start! (And because it was the first joint appearance the royal couple has made in more than three months, we’re going to consider this a one-year anniversary gift from them to all of us.) Read more »

There’s been a serious push towards sustainable fashion of late and with good reason. Gorgeous wears that are kind to the environment? That’s like double the reason to go shopping!
Now, longtime environmental advocate H&M (they’ve been the world’s largest buyer of organic cotton since 2010) is taking its environmental quest one step further with the Conscious Collection. The new knockout sustainable fashion line of everything from shorts to blouses to cocktail dresses and gowns (gowns!) is made from a whole slew of earth-conscious fabrics, including chemical-free organic cotton, a totally renewable cellulose-silk called Tencel and recycled polyester made from PET plastic bottles.
The tea-with-the-Queen-worthy collection is chock-full of sugary sweet pastels, romantic florals and the nipped-in waists we saw all over the Spring 2012 runways. These ultra-flattering dresses are perfect for the summer wedding, the prom or even the classic night out on the town. And though it might be a bit of a bold choice for a wedding dress, one particular off-white gown with a decadent tiered skirt has us in a decidedly matrimonial kind of mood. Still need another stamp of approval? Actress/goddess Michelle Williams wore one of the Conscious gowns to the BAFTA Awards earlier this year. Can we get an amen?

My, my, my, are the stars ever aligned today. Kate Middleton wore something super trendy! She did! Known for dressing wholly on her own—so stunning while staying completely out of the realm of what’s en vogue—Kate debuted spring’s most buzzed-about appendage, the peplum, while on her first official Diamond Jubilee visit to Leicester alongside Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip. The peplum in question was another creation by one of Kate’s favourite labels, L.K. Bennett. We daresay the Queen’s looking pretty trendy herself, in her bright-fuchsia cashmere Angela Kelly suit. These two besties looks so swell beside each other, that we can’t help but wonder whether they coordinated beforehand. Oh, what fun we’ll have imagining that.
Fashion show audiences are a mix of customers and the media, and we each tend to read what comes down the runway differently. I am looking for what is new. Customers are looking for that and more. They want to know that the expensive piece they bought last season isn’t going to look dated. So when I told a young fashion enthusiast after the Mugler show that the collection was full of peplums, she practically did a cartwheel. “I can still wear them?” she beamed. Uh huh. And all the rest of us who haven’t bought one yet might want to join in the fun. Of course we probably won’t go quite as far as the undulating peplums at Mugler. In white with fox sleeves and downy helmets, the overall effect was a bird in flight.

Some of the top Fall runway trends made their way deep into red carpet territory tonight, as the A-listers put on Hollywood’s biggest and best parade. From the rich reds on Emma Stone and Natalie Portman seen this season on the runway at Michael Kors, to the crisp whites on Gwyneth Paltrow, Rooney Mara, and Octavia Spencer seen at Raf Simons‘ last Jil Sander collection (not to mention everywhere at the Golden Globes), to the peplums spotted on Michelle Williams, Tina Fey, and just about every runway from New York to Milan, it seems that everyone is drinking the same Kool-Aid. But who did it best? We’re loving Gwyneth, Michelle, Jessica, Rooney, and Angelina (her right leg gets a special shout-out), but who makes your cut? Check out our top 12 picks and vote for your favourite after the jump!
From the Spring and Fall ’12 runways to the red carpet at the Academy Awards, it seems pretty clear: the peplum is in the building! Spotted tonight on both Tina Fey, in a regal looking custom-made Carolina Herrera gown, and Michelle Williams, in a tiered coral Louis Vuitton, this trend is certainly having a moment. While adding a bit of extra volume at the waist might seem a little tricky, both actresses are showcasing the look on two very different body types. So, what do you think? Will you be trying the peplum this year?
From ladylike lace to clashing prints, we present your complete guide to the top runway looks, the must-have items of the season and more!
