There was a strange moment yesterday at the Tuileries when a crowd of several dozen photographers made their way towards the big white show tent for the Christian Dior Spring 2011 show.
The tightly-packed group seemed to glide across the gravel like a swarm of bees. Their cameras were held aloft, but the person at the centre of the pack was totally obscured by beefcake bodyguards.

The New York Post talks to a group of fashion lovers who are dealing with Manhattan’s cramped closet conditions by filling fridges and ovens full of shoes and clothes. Vogue‘s most visible caftan wearer, André Leon Talley, told the Globe & Mail that he would never make it to Toronto Fashion Week:
“I’m too busy. I just would never be able to. My schedule just can’t permit it.”
But then Jeremy Laing, Erdem and Mark Fast show in New York and London to get the audience they need.

The video for Lady Gaga‘s “Telephone,” featuring Beyoncé is out. In it, Gaga wears a gigantic black and white striped jacket and a bedazzled G-string bikini–in prison. Beyoncé’s outfits include a yellow latex dress with matching cowboy hat (and eyeshadow!). There’s more, obviously.
Model-turned-filmmaker Rie Rasmussen has beef with Terry Richardson and his approach to photography: “He takes girls who are young, manipulates them to take their clothes off and takes pictures of them they will be ashamed of.” Rasumssen ran into Richardson at a party and told him the same thing, in so many words; ”I told him what you do is completely degrading to women. I hope you know you only [bleep] girls because you have a camera, lots of fashion contacts and get your pictures in Vogue.” [The Cut]
Steve Madden is apparently going to create the shoes for Madonna’s Material Girl collection for Macy’s. [WWD]
After abruptly shutting down shops at the beginning of the year, Yohji Yamamo has announced that the company will have a men’s fashion show in Tokyo on April 1. The collection itself is still in the works. [Daily Front Row] Read more »
Yohji Yamamoto presented a dark and dramatic collection at yesterday’s Y-3 show, which ended with Yamamoto taking down a boxer with his martial arts moves and, in turn, getting knocked out himself–a play perhaps, on his company’s recent difficulties.
News of Yohji Yamamoto quickly and quietly closing his two New York stores last night left people wondering what lay ahead for the designer. It is now being reported that the closure of the NYC stores is just a part of a bigger ripple effect, with stores closing all over the globe. [Racked]
The big true or false question that invaded the fashion world yesterday–will Sarah Jessica Parker be taking on a role at Halston–is true. Yohji Yamamoto Inc. filed for bankruptcy protection today against debts of 6 billion yen (about $69.4 million CAD). An investor, Integral Corp., has already stepped up with funds and the Japanese company with continue to operate during restructuring.
