It’s time to toss the mini because the Fall 2014 runways call for ankle grazing midi skirts. Whether it’s completely sheer, structured or ruffled—this season, looking like a lady is in (yet again!).

The midi skirt continues to stand the test of time likely because of its versatility and ultra-ladylike feel. Ranging from just below the knee to right above the ankle, the midi skirt is a demure and welcomed option to the itty-bitty shorts that we saw for spring (Rodarte, we’re looking at you).

But don’t think the midi skirt is synonymous with conservatives. While most of the leg may be covered with the exception of a well-heeled ankle, Donna Karan showed the sultry nature of the midi skirt with a sheer version of the skirt completed with metallic embellishments. Without the blazer covering the waistline, the skirt would be more appropriate for the boudoir than a black tie event.

Giving the librarian length a fresh and young look was Michael Kors with his classic sportswear aesthetic. He gave the uptown girl a multi-layered option with a sheer midi skirt peeking out from a thick wool blazer—perfect for darting from the office to out on the town. And of course, the midi skirt was envisioned in a power suiting style for the boardroom babe at Max Mara with a skirt suit combo.

The easy to style trend will become a closet favourite come Fall 2014 thanks to its protection against the sub-zero temperatures we know as Canadians (and don’t love) and you’ll never fear a gust of wind again.
