What’s your morning ritual? “When we’re on the road, we don’t really get to choose what we eat and drink, but when I’m in charge, I’ll either have a bagel with peanut butter and bananas, or oatmeal with strawberries and bananas.”

How do you train? “Our workouts change throughout the season, depending on when we need to build muscle and speed and when we need to maintain. Every weekday we’ve got a different one—most of them start out with some small, quick movement exercises, then some explosive ones with heavy weights, a lot of quick-turning core work with balance and stability, and there is some cardio in the mix as well.”

Do you listen to music when you work out? “No music. We’re always taking in instructions or working with a partner.”

What’s the most unusual training method you’ve tried for your sport? “You could call parkour an out-of-the-box training method. It involves jumping off random things, climbing walls and a lot of hanging and grip-strength stuff.”

How do you prepare for a run? “I really like the word ‘ready.’ I think if I’m ready, it means that I’m prepared, relaxed, excited and good to go.”

I’d be a happy woman if I never had to... “Use the rowing machine again.”
