After attending Central Saint Martins and working as a designer at Sonia Rykiel and Burberry (between stints as a luxury lingerie designer and an entrepreneur and trend forecaster), Suhner Isenberg returned to Vancouver and launched Searching for Style.

If you didn’t blog about fashion and style, you would blog about... “Pole dancing. It’s the only sport you can do while wearing high heels! It is my primary form of exercise—of course, it’s something I practise recreationally, not professionally!”

What websites are on your daily radar? “Business of Fashion (businessoffashion.com)
is my bible.”

Who’s your most random reader? “My friend Emily’s mom, Pat. Emily lives in London, but her mom lives in Vancouver. She used to buy all of her eyewear in Europe until I mentioned Envision Optical on Fourth Avenue, the best eyewear shop on this continent! She went in and bought three pairs.”

Who are your style icons? “Cher Horowitz in Clueless—she introduced me to Alaïa. I’ve recently been following Carey Mulligan; she has a great young, fresh style that stands out amongst all the overly sexy, plastic celebrities that are in fashion at the moment. Audrey Hepburn is also one of my style icons, and lastly, yay to Carla Bruni-Sarkozy and Michelle Obama for revolutionizing First Lady style and proving that politico wives do not have to be boring.”

Favourite women’s collections for Fall 2010? “Like everyone, I loved Celine. I also love everything Tomas Maier has done for Bottega Veneta. Donna Karan’s collection was beautifully modern, and Michael Kors was so him—so camel, so American.”

What are you coveting this fall? “Too much to choose from! The Clou Noeud shoe in black by Christian Louboutin, Alexander McQueen’s studded skull clutch, the Celine leather trench, a Burberry Prorsum sheepskin jacket, a metallic pump by Finsk, Jason Matlo’s draped-shoulder jacket and the Proenza Schouler PS1 satchel. I need a new basic everyday bag.”

What are your can’t-live-without-it fashion items? “I can’t live without my Hermès Chaine D’Ancre bracelet; I wear it every day. I also have a necklace with giant links from the same collection, which is very precious to me. I got it in lieu of an engagement ring.”

Do you shop online? “I do shop online, but mostly for books and items I already have, like American Apparel basics (I buy a lot of doubles of things, if I like them). I had an online shoe purchase disaster, so I’m always hesitant about buying footwear or clothing online, although I buy a lot of underwear on the internet—from brands I already own.
