Fall always makes me think of new beginnings, and since I’m giddily celebrating my own new start as FASHION’s Montreal editor, I thought I’d share some of my recent favourites with you.

Congratulations to Vy Tran and Véronique Chartrand, winners of the very first Télio Scholarships. Thirty-three provincial finalists showcased their designs alongside established Quebec designers. The theme was black, the inspiration was Mies van der Rohe’s architecture, and the results were breathtaking.

DKNY has just gotten a facelift. The boutique at Les Cours Mont-Royal (1455 Peel St., 514-284-3569) boasts 8,000 square feet of style, with five separate sections devoted to every aspect of the hot New York line.

Enviro goddesses, rejoice. That dull-as-dirt canvas bag isn’t your only option for schlepping groceries. Posch (at Folle Guenille, 4039 Ste-Catherine St. E., 514-845-0012) is breathing colourful new life into recycled fabrics with its silkscreened totes, the perfect accessory for the Jean-Talon Market.

“Always wear clean underwear” was Mom’s number one piece of advice. Stick a pair of Montreal-based Tagalongs’ disposable skivvies (tagalongs.ca) in your purse, and you’ll be guaranteed a fresh start no matter what you get up to.

Order a few tapas dishes from Loïc Chazay, the new chef at Auberge du Vieux-Port (97 de la Commune St. E., 514- 876-0081). Pair them with something from the bar’s extensive wine list, and raise a glass to September!
