Fall Runway Report
From urban anoraks to lacy Victoriana—FASHION brings you the best of the brave new season.
The Great Cover-Up
One of the biggest messages of this season has layer upon layer of fabric completely enveloping the body. Seen first at Marc Jacobs, this “nouveau grunge” is a more elegant take on the flannel unsexiness of the first grunge era, with an overriding flavour of 1980s Japanese design. There are no bare legs in November, no chiffon blouses for holiday and absolutely no exposed skin whatsoever—fantastic news for those of us in chillier climates. Women will be piling dresses and sweaters over leggings, and topping them off with massive hats, elbow-length gloves and long scarves. The cape—so chic and oh so forgiving—is key.

I love the red hot coat with the brass buttons. Layering is great for fall. Great runway display of fashions!

Your editorial stance on fur is incomprehensible, and hellishly irresponsible. It's appalling that the bullpen at FASHION deliberately accords chic status to this "product." How do you justify your detachment from reality? This mag goes in the trash, along with every further issue. Jaw-dropping and unbelievable!
Please, please wake up.

I love the knits, and the big jackets, I think they will be big in fall. BUT PLEASE, WE HAVE SO MANY MATERIALS TO WORK WITH, WE DON'T NEED TO WEAR FUR, IT IS JUST RIDICULOUS!

HEARTLESS PEOPLE WEAR FUR!
The sooner the fur industry goes into decline again, the better!

I like the "Beastie Girl" look but does it have to be made from real fur? I would like to see the wearers of these fashions "take down" the animals whose skin they are wearing. Are they aware of the tortured lives and deaths that these creatures have suffered and that a lot of these furs have come from dogs? Sure, fashion can be fun but with the faux fur alternatives available to designers today it does not have to be cruel. Shame on designers who use real fur!

Slim leggings and bulky sweaters-great, finally I can cover up my tummy and show off my skinny legs. I am happy to see the military look into the fall. I like the red coat by Dolce & Gabanna. Plaids are great-now there is a fashion look my daughter and I can agree on!
Just once I would love to wear some of these clothes and think I can go home with this one! Such a dreamer! Just like that shoe commercial where the shoes follow the girl home, boy, I would love to say to my husband, "They just gave me these clothes."

It's all pretty ugly, especially the dead animal jackets. No matter how hard your achingly talented copywriters try, you can't convince anyone that fur is 'now' or 'savagely cool' or whatever adjectives your fashion 'journalists' care to employ.

After the article on fur, you will never see a copy of Fashion in my waiting room again.
