Garden Party

Tea...for 22. Followed by Pimm’s and poker!
slideshow image

By Dylan Scott

Inspiration
The classic card party meets English eccentricity.  Play up the Brit garden-party look with chintz and paisley linen and charming, colourful vintage china. Accent with card motifs like Siecle’s hand-embroidered napkins ($23, siecle-paris.com) and a themed menu.

Menu
Update the traditional tea sandwich—recast “cream cheese and watercress” as “chèvre, cucumber and arugula”; modernize “egg salad” by chopping in black truffle; top seared ahi with wasabi mayo to stylize “tuna.” Use cookie cutters to cut sandwiches into card-party shapes—hearts, spades, clubs or diamonds.

Floral
Pretty pastels grouped in small table vases—tulips, gerberas, roses, carnations...

Tumblers by Pottery Barn; plates, tablecloth and napkins by Williams-Sonoma
