The American designer on Valentine’s Day, ketchup chips and his favourite indulgence.
Will you be wearing pink or red this Valentine’s Day?
“I don’t own anything in those two colours, sadly!”
Are you in a relationship?
“I have a partner that I’ve been with for a long time—we’re going on our 11th year.”
Any Valentine’s Day rituals?
“We’re anti-Valentine’s Day, so we just like to do the opposite of what people are doing on Valentine’s Day. Every day has an element of romance.”
Do you have a favourite food?
“I’m obsessed with ketchup chips! Last time [my friend from Vancouver] brought me Lays!”
Favourite type of music or artist?
“What I’m listening to right now is MGMT and TV On The Radio, but I always go back to sad music—Morrissey, The Smiths, and sometimes I listen to old Whitney Houston.”
What is your favourite place in the world to visit?
“I love the central coast of California—Monterey, Santa Cruz. It’s really peaceful. I also love the beaches in Thailand.”
What do you miss most about Thailand?
“I miss the food—there’s a noodle dish called Thai boat noodles, and it’s really delicious and it’s hard to find here.”
How often do you go back?
“Once every year or so.”
What’s your favourite cheap thing to do?
“I love to go to Chinatown to a Vietnamese restaurant and eat so much food for basically nothing! The bill always comes to, like, less than $30 for two people, and it’s all the food that you can eat in town!”
