Judging from the bigger-than-your-bank-account shoulders at Marc Jacobs, glittery disco-inspired accessories at Alexander McQueen, slick New Wave power-suits at Gucci, and Stephen Sprouse–hued fluoro knits at Michael Kors, it seems that over-the-top, feel-good fashion is on heavy rotation. Yep, kids, the ’80s are still alive and kicking. Houses like Dolce & Gabbana, with its poufy satin party frocks à la Alexis Carrington Colby of Dynasty, and Balmain, with its blinged-out, body-con Robert Palmer video-vixen dresses, have seemingly created their own sexy stimulus packages. This conjured up the good ol’ days when women were on top, and their closets—filled with flamboyant leather, acid-wash and neon goodies—reflected this empowering message.
