Fashion news: Oscar de la Renta calls couture “irrelevant,” the Kaiser collects an award and Victoria Beckham to design for Beyoncé
Oscar de la Renta claims that the days of women sporting couture are done, saying, “Couture has become completely irrelevant. Customers are smart. They know that a $10,000 wedding dress will look as beautiful as a $1 million wedding dress. Maybe it will not be finished the same way inside, but who will know?” Touché. [The Cut]

In the wake of Fern Mallis announcing her departure from IMG, the mega-company blasted out an email with the latest upgrades for NYFW come September at the new Lincoln Center locale. Highlights include keeping three main presentation spaces, albeit renaming them The Theatre, The Stage and The Studio, and adding a Box Presentation Space for designer presentations, industry forums and press conferences. A large lobby with lounge style seating and larger presentation spaces is another addition, making things a little roomier for attendees. [Stylelist]

Lagerfeld will also be gracing New York with his presence in September with the announcement that The Couture Council of The Museum at the Fashion Institute of Technology will honour the Kaiser with the Fashion Visionary Award on Sept. 10.
