Rumours are swirling that Apple is launching its first piece of wearable technology: the iWatch. With most of our possessions beginning with the letter “i” it was only a matter of time before this extended to our fashion choices and if this is anything nearly as desirable as other Apple products, the fashion industry is in for a shocker when it hits stands, which is reportedly later this year.

According to Fashionista, the man behind the project is Jonathan Ive, Apple’s VP of design a.k.a the man behind the iMac, the product many of us couldn’t live without. While the hardware genius may be top of the game in his own field, you have to wonder whether the stylish Brit (Ive sat front row at Burberry’s Spring 2013 show) is fashion savvy enough to tackle the world of jewellery. Lets be real, the iWatch is more likely to be comparable to Nike’s Fuel Band (but with a complete Apple OS) than a classic Omega. Still, for the item to develop the same cult following as everything else the Apple logo graces, the pressure is on for the designer to develop the ultimate timepiece.

As noted in the Fashionista profile, Ive himself has a pretty distinct style. Notably obsessed with cotton tees and denim shirts, his casual look is similar to his former boss Steve Jobs’ style, whose black turtleneck and Levi’s ensemble is iconic. At a recent Apple conference, Ive unveiled his latest work in software design with a new take on the iPhone home screen. The bright new look involved heavy doses of pink, purple and blue, leading us to question whether he’s considering the same colour palette for the iWatch. The release date and price of the product are both mysteries, for now!
