New ways to wear old clothes: 5 Style Panel tips on how to re-work your favourite piece
Whether it is for financial or creative reasons, looking for new ways to wear old clothes is something that always comes to mind. As much as we all wish we could wear new outfits for the rest of our lives like the fashionable characters of our fave films and TV shows (Cher Horowitz, Andy Sachs, Carrie Bradshaw, Serena van der Woodsen just to name a few), we don’t live in a fashion fairytale. Well, at least the majority of us don’t. Being the responsible shoppers that we are (or at least strive to be one), this week we’ve challenged our Style Panel members to share their tips and tricks on how to wear their old clothes in new ways.
Little did we know, some of the Style Panelists have already re-worked their favourite items under our noses. Case in point: Barbara Ann Solomon of Barbara Ann’s Style Blog shows us how to take a silk robe from winter to summer effortlessly. Inspiring those who have events to rush off to after a long day at the office, Christopher Wolf of Wolf Musings shares how one pair of faux leather pants can work for both day and night. And if you plan to look for new ways to wear a statement piece, take Sasha’s Satisfashion’s Sasha Xiao’s advice: Break away from your sartorial comfort zone and experiment with something on trend to spice up your look.

Since a blogger’s wardrobe doesn’t double when you get a url, one must shop with a financial plan; basics, trendy pieces, investments and show-stoppers. Because of this mentality I wear a lot of my favourite pieces frequently and am constantly trying to change up their looks.
This silk robe, an item I got from Aritzia a few seasons ago, has graced my blog every season, adding a simple element of luxe to every outfit it’s styled with. In January 2013 it was the highlight colour of an outfit, and in February of the same year I styled it romantically with black lace and a nod to Curtis Kulig. A month ago, I styled it with a head-to-toe pastel blue look for contrast to welcome the long awaiting spring weather.
Now I’m playing with a tonal look with blush and navy, plaid and pinstripes. This robe is my favourite way to add elegance (and coverage) to an easy spring/summer look.

I am obsessed with my lace-up heels! This style is so on-trend and the blush color is perfect for pairing with anything from bold prints to neutral colors. I mix up these heels with skirts, dresses and jeans, previously seen on the Style Panel here with a pencil skirt.
The latest way I’ve been styling these heels is pairing them with white denim skinny jeans and a bomber jacket. These heels effortlessly transform the sporty bomber into a glam look!

I’ve re-styled these H&M faux leather pants. The last challenge I wore these in, I went for a more daytime, multi-tone look with a plaid jacket and tan boots. This time, I’ve gone for a more severe night-time look with all black, and a racy tee underneath. I’d wear the first one to the market on a Saturday afternoon perhaps, and this one out for drinks on a Saturday night.

This sweater has been on repeat since December for me. In all honesty, it’s hard to just walk away entirely from my knitwear come spring. So I try to either use my sweaters as outerwear for the evenings or pair them with lighter blazers.

This skirt was one of those “love at first sight” kind of things. Since I got it, I’ve been actively wearing it and trying to accommodate it with other pieces I have. However, as it has a very bold neon-ish hot pink shade, I always tried to cool down the tone by pairing it with darker or monochromatic items. BUT not this time! I figured why not step out of my comfort zone and try a colour-blocking look. Voilà! One of my favourite skirts appears again, and this time, is rocking with red.
