In the first step toward more affordable accessories, British fashion house, Mulberry has launched a lower priced handbag line inspired by equestrian saddlery.

The Tessie collection features a hobo, clutch, tote and satchel which feature soft leather detailing in either oxblood, poppy, oak or black with belt buckles and straps. Most importantly, the Tessie collection will range between $860 and $1,190, a marked difference from the brand’s typical pricing, which usually begins around $1,300 for the same size.

This new line comes after a rather difficult time for Mulberry, which issued two recent profit warnings and reported falling share prices, on top of its loss of its former CEO, Bruno Guillion. Not to mention, the brand’s notable no-show at February’s London Fashion Week after Emma Hill, the brand’s former creative director left the company.

Needless to say, the brand has some work to do in order to stabilize its growth, and with other luxe brands going in the opposite direction, Tessie might just be the key to success. Or demise. Focusing on exclusivity and introducing more expensive products, Louis Vuitton’s value jumped a notable 14% and was given the number one spot in luxury ranking, followed by Hérmes, who raised prices in January. Chanel and Celine have also increased the prices of their lust-worthy bags in order to keep up with the competition.

However, we’re always up for the more affordable, and chances are you probably are too! Mulberry’s Tessie collection is available to ship to Canada on Mulberry’s site now.
