In the teeny landscape of Canadian fashion labels, ones that make it beyond the Great White North are a point of national pride. One such label is Toronto-based Smythe, which has gotten its jackets on the backs of Kate Middleton, Blake Lively and Charlize Theron (to name only a very important few) while selling at some of the world’s most major retailers. To celebrate their 10th anniversary this year, designers Christie Smythe and Andrea Lenczner created a special edition “10×10” capsule perfectly capturing their unique mix of class and quirk. Debuting last night, the collection of brass-buttoned wool coats, chunky knits, distressed denim and, of course, signature blazers made easy fans of the heavily-stacked crowd of Smythe devotees who filled Holt Renfrew’s Bloor Street flagship last night.
