After last week’s gloomy Target news, here’s something mega exciting to snack on: Uniqlo is coming to Canada. The Japanese store has been part of the Canadian retail rumour mill for years (updated reports of real estate meetings popped up again this summer), and was finally confirmed this morning by a press release from Yorkdale Shopping Centre, its future home. Best known for its solid basics, kaleidoscopic walls and affordable designer aesthetic, Uniqlo will open a 24,000 square foot flagship in fall 2016. It’ll go down as part of the mall’s 300,000 expansion, which also includes Toronto’s first Nordstrom location.

Uniqlo has become a favourite stop on cross border shopping sprees since launching in the U.S. ten years ago. With its past roster of collaborations with Jil Sander, Pharrell Williams, Undercover and most recently Ines de la Fressange, its sure to feed our insatiable thirst for affordable designer pieces.
