We go behind-the-scenes with Holt Renfrew’s new Uncrate Africa zine
Earlier this year, we hit New York City with Holt Renfrew for a behind-the-scenes at its latest project: a one-of-a-zine in conjunction with the charitable venture, Uncrate Africa. Last year, we toured India with the Holts team for their first-ever Uncrate adventure. And well, once you globetrot, you just can’t stop.
This time around, the Holts team hit Africa with Haitian designer Stella Jean to pluck the region’s most beautiful artisanal wares. In addition, designers like Dannijo, Lemlem, Obakki and Me to We all created one-of-a-kind pieces for the collection, with profits benefiting various African charities and causes. “The idea was to recreate the idea of an African bazaar at Holt Renfrew while employing and empowering women in underprivileged areas of the world,” said Dannijo designer Danielle Snyder. Along with sister and co-designer Jodie, Snyder spearheaded the zine photo shoot, with help from stylish friends like Leandra Medine, Waris Ahluwalia and Aurora James who model the pieces in a series of black and white photos shot by Canadian photographer Hannah Sider.
